This is the first ever "I don't see what the big deal is about" by yours truly. I plan to use these topics to talk about things that seem to be really over to most people but there are a few who don't see how it's so great.
This one will tackle the DAMN! thing from Simmons. Yes, it was mildly funny the first couple of times. But then it got to be really predictable and annoying. Everytime something weird goes down on WWE you can expect Simmons to be there with his cliched saying.

it's not just the damn thing. Why is he still wrestling? Why is he still there? What does he offer anymore? Just wasting TV time.

Still not as bad as "WHAT", although it'll probably get there if it doesn't end soon. At least the fans don't interrupt people's promos with it.

I believe the DAMN thing is a good example of writers or someone else not knowing what they are doing. They give Old Ron a little something to do, possibly as a favor, and it becomes popular and humorous. Then someone, in their infinite wisdom, decides that it should go on and on and on. Probably to justify making and selling a T-shirt.
The DAMN thing was most likely a success on accident, and the subsequent usage of it was entirely uncreative.

It's very played out and at this point I'm surprised they are still doing it. I mean, it's been a year, right?

What kills me is that damn could be funny but they execute it horribly. If he just popped out of nowhere and said damn it would be funnier than him standing around for a minute before saying it. And if they didn't do it every week and did it like 3 months apart it would be pretty funny.

They should be making the "DAMN" for skits, not skits for "DAMN". It's overused as well.

Because some people find it funny.
I wish I could say there was a deeper sociological reason why the Ron Simmons gag caught on, but I don't think there is. Some people just think it's funny.

At this point, it's played out and over-used. It's a simple sight-gag, but those are tricky in that, even as a "signature bit" they have to be spaced properly to be effective.
On a side note, it pisses me off that they're overdoing it, because now I can't even use the bit anymroe.

Is this only for "DAMN!" because there are other things I don't see the big deal about.

What's the deal with homework. You're not working on your home. BooooooAnd as for Ron Simmons, I still get a little chuckle when he does it, mostly because of the long pause, where the recipient is just waiting for it, knowing he/she deserves it, then he lets them have it

They should be making the "DAMN" for skits, not skits for "DAMN". It's overused as well. ^ When you have a skit that was created solely for the purpose of Simmons coming out and saying the magic word ... well, it's just a lousy waste of time. Unless you really find that particular word hilarious. I have no problem with it, I think it's funny, but two-plus minutes every show of something happening just so he can say it? Why not add that time to a match?

"DAMN" started out so awesomely. When it's done right, it's good. When it's done every week (or with variations of it like the date thing), it doesn't work.

Besides, I want my bit back! *throws something* Look, WWE, if you're reading this, and it's possible, if you MUST snag something from me, please, for the love of God, make it something I can give up, like Jeff Hardy's extreme hiding places or Sledgie as Executive VP of Prop Relations.
