Batista and Orton say Eddie wasn't getting title

We already know about the bit in Batista's book where he talks about the three way that never happened, and that it was going to be Randy Orton who would win the belt, and not Eddie Guerrero, but now Orton's confirmed that he was meant to be getting the belt as well. He also says he got clearance from Vickie before doing the "Eddie's in hell" promo.

Eddie was in a Benoit role of "former champion putting people over" at the time. I highly doubt he was getting the belt that night. They needed a heel champion anyway.

There was talk of Eddie completing his turn on Batista that night and winning the title. It would have made good sense, and it would have been cool to see Eddie as a heel champion.

I find it funny that ll along they said he was going to get it back and now they have changed their tune. The fact is at this point it doesn't really matter. All this is doing is making them look bad IMO

I actually think that Orton winning, "injuring" Batista, and feuding with Eddie made the most sense anyways. I believe this, but by the same token, I do not care at all.

I also heard that eddie was going to win the title that night but why owuld vince lie about it... make you wonder if chris benoit was actually supposed to win the ecw title the day he died or if cm punk was supposed to beat him

Actually the poop-in-the-bag story was proven false...

We'd stop passing judgement on Superstars basing our idea on a bunch of newz reported by "somebody backstage".

Why should Batista and Orton lie about that? The fact Eddie was or wasn't getting the title doesn't make either man look any better or worse. So I can't see a good reason for a lie here.

And BTW, they probably got ASKED the question... Or they called a press conference (with the Sun, out of all newspapers..) only to metaphorically spit on Eddie's grave.

I tend to believe that they were going to put the Championship on Orton, but either way does it really matter who they were going to put the belt on.

I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone reading this thread. People are dismissing first-hand sources in favor of composites they've made based on in-ring characters and backstage stories with no support. Shouldn't we be furious at Stephanie for lying to the fans originally?

Eddy wanting to put the strap on Orton, rather than take the title for himself, is old news. That came out some time ago.

As one of the biggest, if not the biggest, Eddy mark(s) on the board, this "revelation" means nothing to me.

It will also still not get me to buy a copy of "Big" Dave Batista's book.

I have the opinion that the belt was going to Orton, even though I wanted Eddie to have it. But seriously, why does this matter? Its over and done with. Orton and Batista have said their pieces, we've said ours, and we know how everything turned out.
