Several people in WWE were said to be happy with Santino Marella’s work on RAW this past Monday in the beer truck segment with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Many were surprised at the lack of pop that Austin received but felt that Marella sold the “hose down” well.
wrestling-edge.
Of course, WWE creative like him. He's the only one who makes their lines sound interesting.

Punk works well with the super-serious stuff they give him.

I'm happy about that, as I feel Santino is one of the best things about today's WWE.
I fear he's really going to get really over and they'll turn him into a generic face again, though. Which would suck.

Marella sold the “hose down” well. Is it wrong that I think those quotation marks make it seem a little...um...wrong?

Maybe the pop would have been louder if we hadn't already seen Austin hose people down from a truck before. LAME. It reeks not of awesomeness but of desperation to rekindle the magic.

Santino is really making his gimmick work.
I'm not surprised by the lukewarm pop for Austin: Santino is amusing in a way, so having an old has-been come back for the 59156th time just to beat the guy up makes little sense, and maybe the crowd realized that.
Or they're simply getting, FINALLY, tired of Stone Cold

I've said this before, but I don't think he'll ever be a main eventer, His wrestling skills are bad and he's not the right size for Vince. Usually a main eventer in WWE has to have at least one of these qualities.

I don't see him ever being world champion either.
I do feel, however, that he has the capability to be an entertaining WWE mainstay for a long while.

I could honestly see Santino as being this generation's Roddy Piper.
Imagine having his own talk show? That would own.

I've now seen some of his OVW stuff, If they let him wrestle like that on Raw we have an Awesome Package here. This Heel turn is the best thing that has happened to him, Going from a Pissbreak to one of the main reasons to Watch raw

Of course, WWE creative like him. He's the only one who makes their lines sound interesting. many make their lines sound interesting. they just try to give funnier ones to santino. i believe there are quite a few that could have such good delivery on the lines if creative even cared enough to try.

I think Austin's lack of a pop had more to do with WWE drawing something out a little too far.
Austin really had no place reffing the Batista/Undertaker match, but the point most people seemed to draw from was if he's picked to ref, sometime during the night he'll confront Santino. Well, that didn't happen.
So, the next RAW... there was Santino in the middle of the ring. Makes sense. Austin's music hits and the crowd explodes.... turns out it was a set-up. Then, Maria says Austin will be on RAW the following week.
Since there's really no doubt that Austin would physically own Santino, Stunner, etc,... there was no way to hype the confrontation as everyone knew what would happen anyway. So, when Austin's music hit and he came to the ring... it was less of a 'Business is about to pick up" pop.. and more of an "It's about damn time" pop.

On the other hand, I was legitimately excited to see just how Santino was going to put the final slap in the face of Austin regarding The Condemned. Picking it up like a dirty diaper, dropping it and snuffing it out with his foot like a cockroach made the segment. The stunner sell was awesome. The rest was the pissbreak.

By the way that stunner sell was perfect. On a scale of Linda McMahon being absolute zero, where does it rank on the list of all time great Stunner Sells?

The question here is, how couldn't you be pleased with Santino?

It's amazing how they managed to pick up the ball with Santino after his botched IC title run. I honestly felt that before turning heel, he would be "wished well" before the end of the year.

I didn't think he'd last to August, even. Again, it's a case of a character with no personality developing one and getting over. We've seen it countless times.
