It's not often that you can remember what you were doing exactly ten years ago.
I'm sure most of us were watching the PPV. I wasn't.
I was but a wee 11 year old little girl, fighting on the phone with the cable company because it wasn't on. My mom didn't speak English well at the time so I had to take care of it.
I ended up watching the replay. But I knew what was gonna happened because I used to call wrestling hot lines -- including one called "smark mark" pro wrestling hotline. I didn't have the internet back then.
The night before there was a WWE houseshow in Cobo Hall in Detroit. I was there, hearing the "You sold out" chants. It's weird. I was a "Smark" at 11 years old.
Where were all of you that night? WHen did you first hear? What did you first think?

Wasn't watching WWE at the time. I only heard about it in 99, reading Mick Foleys book.

Didn't watch WWE at the time, but heard about it the next day and later the following weekend on ECW during one of their commercials for their hotline.

I actually stepped 10-15 minutes before the actual moment. I remember watching only parts of the PPV, since my father was in a rush that day. We even ate at Arby's, getting back just in time to see the Rock tap to the ankle lock. My father then took me home in the middle of the brawl.
I heard about it the next day, but knew nothing until Bret showed up in WCW and A & E aired Wrestling with Shadows.

Was watching it on PPV...looked to me like Bret just submitted.
didn't get why all those people were out there.
Remember that back then only Shamrock made people tap out, before him it was just the ref signalling for the bell

This was way before the Internet, so I didn't know any of the backstage problems that were going on.

Did not watch wrestling back then, but I bet I was playing with my Ninja Turtle Action Figures, or building Legos, or sleeping

I watched it on videotape, and thought something was off, as I didn't think Bret would have submitted if he was shaking HBK off him. And Shawn not celebrating made me even more curious. But it wouldn't be for another several months until I knew exactly what had happened backstage.

yeah same here, saw the ppv on tv and when you saw everyone up there and when the bell rang? I knew something was up. You could tell that wasn't suppose to happen and with HBK leaving so quickly and whatnot. I like they way Shawn acted like he had no clue when you know he did.

I was 18, and watching it at my friend's house (for free, we never payed for a ppv). We all saw that something wasn't right.

I knew something was wrong because Bret countered right away when the bell rang, then Shawn left. This was very different than when Shawn beat Bret before. Shawn hung around that ring for hours.

I Knew something was up when Bret spit in Vince's face. Vince wasn't a heel at the time, so it was really out of the ordinary.
