I say the same thing every time a thread about Benjamin being misused pops up (weekly basis). If three wins over Triple H himself, at the peak of his dominant run, a mini-program against Evolution and an IC title can't get you over with the crowd, you're done. And rightfully so. Agreed. How many threads is there going to be with Shelton not being used right? It isn't WWE's fault that Shelton didn't keep his spot that they gave him initially, and yet WWE is to blame. I guess WWE has to do all the work for a wrestler to get him over, especially ones that are uncharismatic and botchy like Shelton and Carlito.

Undertaker after his fued with Hogan had random matches with IRS, Giant Gonzales, Warlord, and a bunch of other not so high profile matches yet he still managed to stay over.

Actually, considering that promos are scripted and matches are laid out by the road agents, the only thing Shelton could be remotely responsible for is his delivery of the scripted promos he's handed. Admittedly, his delivery isn't great, but still.

Yes, but Taker wasn't beaten every week by a roll up from Giant Gonzales I don't really think the rollups by Carlito had anything to do with it, and if those were the reasons why his popularity diminished, then he wasn't that over to begin with. Does great moves in the ring, but not very charismatic and you can only go so far with knowing various holds/moves.

Admittedly, his delivery isn't great, but still. Well, it's not only about the delivery. Matches are laid out by the road agents, but who goes in the ring to perform? Benjamin can put on a match consisting of awesomely executed moves and still manage to have the crowd not caring. The "big moves" will get a "ooooohhhhhhhh", but in the end his character won't be interesting enough to stay over. Tito Santana had an awful WrestleMania record, was on the receiving end most of the time, and after his Tag Team run he had no real feud going. Still, he got cheered every time he was in the ring... Without charisma, you go nowhere. Sadly Shelton is unable to translate his skills into interesting matches.

The entire layout of the company and the way it's presented on television is different. There isn't much use in comparing just about anything from then with anything from now.

I can see Shelton going the path of Christian (the Wrestler, not the religion) and serving the remainder of his contract whilst putting guys over before joining up with TNA where he'll get a much better push. He's still young and in great shape, so I'm sure he's happy to just get paid for now.
It is a shame though. I wish he would have replaced Johnny Nitro or The Miz on ECW to have main event matches with CM Punk. That would have been sweet.
