oh, EVERYONE made fun of Tony Schivione.
The way people make fun of Cole and JR has nothing, I mean nothing on "This is the biggest main-event in the history of our sport"...which Schivione declared EVERY WEEK on Nitro.
I also remember watching Nitro for the first hour, then switching back and forth between the two shows depending on what was happening.
Exciting times it was.

The few times I looked at wrestling news on the net back then (didn't have internet) I do always remember seeing tons and tons of false rumurs... like totally bogus information. Can't tell you where I looked though, because I can't remember.

I remember around 1998 the Internet chatrooms were full of "WCW Sux, DX Rulz" and such... and some chatters thought that Bret leaving was going to be the end of the WWF.

This thread brings back a lot of memories. The late 90s was when I was just discovering the wrestling news sites and forums, and at first it almost felt like you were discovering some seedy underworld, like, you weren't supposed to know this stuff! You always knew it was "fake" and staged and all, but to read the news sites, and all the back stage rumors and what have you was just a step in a whole new direction.
Today, I don't think anything of it but it was crazy back then. I remember being the only one of my friends who really read the internet reports, and always being the one who had the "scoop" in the school yard. Oh, those were the days.

I remember when Raw was taped and I got the results online before it aired. When my friends would come over to watch wrestling, I'd start "predicting" what was going to happen and who was going to win. It was similar to Bill Murray in Groundhogs Day when he is watching Jeopardy with the old folks. My friends were so stunned that I could "guess" what was going to happen next. Eventually, they caught on, but it was fun while it lasted.

I remember I used to feel so smart and cool because I knew what was "really" going on. Until the internet I never really even knew anyone else was as interested in pro-wrestling as I was.

I always remember hearing about how all the young midcarders in WCW were always unhappy and wanting to leave for WWF/E.

I remember some of the kids from the class would come up to me after the class and ask for my predictions, of course my friends knew but we would act like we just predicted everything correctly. I do remember almost everyone linked to WCW/WWF/ECW. They really were crazy times. You could see people talking about wrestling in every other chatroom back then.

was I the only one who hated Austin back in thouse days (though, techicaly, I still can't stand the guy)? it seemed every smark and mark had a hard on for him exept me, all he did was bucher the english language and sticked his middle finger up in the air. I marked more for guys like Mick Foley and The Rock.

I remember the AOL newsgroups. There was a ton of complaining during Attitude, but less than today. There were two separate forums for WWF and WCW posting, and I'd say the WCW board as a whole was A LOT less critical of the product (probably because from 96-98 WCW was far superior, IMO).

The IWC of the late 90's?
Man... I wasted so many hours in chat rooms then. Some of the things I remember..
People used to hate the Rock because he "couldn't wrestle". Everybody hated Shawn Michaels for the screwjob. The Hogan hated was fairly universal, however, people loved the nWo. Roleplaying Feds flooded chats and forums with offers to join. "Write 200 lines of a interview! Win no respect, no nothing! However, you win a fantasy of a predetermined sport.."
On the twist though, people were a little more laid back and there weren't nearly as many serious assholes as there are now. I remember AOL's Wrestling Chat (the original WC!) as a place where people were glad to help you learn more about wrestling. I was a huge ECW fan at the time and people instead of saying "ECW suxors, it's a rip off of FMW." the attitude was more like "If you like ECW, you really should check out FMW... you'd probably like it". Oh and HostWWFKim had the hottest daughter... ah WC...

IWC during Attitude Era basically blamed Hogan for everything wrong with WCW. There was also alot of Goldberg hate.

the IWC seemed to me was Wcw fans vs WWF fans , atleast that was how the message boards and chat rooms went. The other thing that was different was the news sites tended to actually have more relevant news then they do now. Back then alot of the news was "who was jumping?" "who was angry with the company" the future angles were posted more frequently . Now news sites will have posts regarding attendance figures, autograph sesssions, and other uninteresting stories. I remember coming home from school and running to my computer and just being overwhelmed with news on Mondays and tuesdays. The other big thing was the ratings were always posted as soon as they came out. Back then everyone cared about those numbers and were seeing if the gap had closed or opened up more, if one of the companies broke a record.

Plus (more towards the end of the 90's), you pretty much had wrestling on EVERY night: SUNDAY - Pay-per-view MONDAY - Raw/Nitro TUESDAY - Pay-per-view replay (for those of us who had those "boxes") WEDNESDAY - Thunder THURSDAY - SmackDown! (before it was moved to Fridays) FRIDAY - ECW on TNN SATURDAY - WCW Saturday Night "Those were the days...

The one thing I remember most was that ECW could do no wrong, ever.
I also remember that there were many 13 and 14 year olds writing columns giving their expert opinion on the wrestling scene.
I do miss Mr. Tito

What the IWC didn't know back then was that this would be the last time wrestling was great.

I came to this thread to say the same thing, I was like 13 or 14 around the Attitude Era and while I don't remember the debates and stuff, I remember reading the tapings. Hardly any of my friends had the internet, yet, and I'd tell them what was going to happen on RAW. My buddy brought this up the other day because I told him X-Pac would be on RAW one night and he didn't believe me, and he was one shocked motherf***er when he did. lol.
