I was watching some matches from tonight's Smackdown! and I have to admit that Justin Roberts (ya know...former ECW ring announcer who does the announcing for Smackdown! now) really is a highlight of the current product.
He was a bright spot of ECW when he was on it (Extreeeeeeme Rules, anybody?) and even now adds a lot of small details to ring announcing that just seems to be missing. Small things like calling Beth Phoenix "The Glamazon" when she won tonight's match, remembering a lot of people's hometowns correctly and bringing a ton of enthusiasm for what he does makes me believe he should have his own thread.
Anybody with me?

I've always thought he was a damn good announcer. I think the WWE is grooming him to eventually replace Lillian on RAW, using ECW and now Smackdown! as development just as they do with the wrestlers.

Yeah, he's good. But he's no Fink. When you hear his voice, you know some main-event s*** is about to happen. And Chimmel, I think he's on his way to being the next Howard Finkel only a little bit more extreme....  (Any chance I get to post this picture I take) |

But I do think he's the best out of the current crop of announcers they have.

I definitely think Justin Roberts is a competent announcer, and he deserves to be on one of the main shows, but to be honest I just think his voice is a little too high pitched. He sounds like a teenager sometimes. That's just a minor gripe though, since he announces things correctly and emphatically.
Honestly, I actually think Tony Chimel is a little better. The only thing Tony Chimel did that bugged me was "JAARRRRRRRRRN CENA". Aside from that though, he seemed to have a good combination of having a deep voice and great annunciation. (Although even I must admit that his ECW bio picture posted above is totally frightening)

Met him after an ECW house show around this time last year. He was just chillin at Applebee's after the show, and was kind enough to take a picture with me, and sign my friends "Billy Gunn is My Father" sign.
We had him sign it because earlier in the night, he noticed it, pointed it out to Scott Armstrong, and Armstong just shook his head in complete dissapointment.

I don't get this.
When he talks, I hear Tony Chimmel with a higher voice.
I really can't tell the difference otherwise.

I'm getting used to him. He's in the middle, behind Chimmel but miles ahead of Garcia.

He's decent enough.
Only one I'm not a fan of is Lillian sometimes. Mainly when she has to explain the stipulations of a match, it just seems so awkward even when she doesn't make mistakes.
