-The House Energy and Commerce Committee, headed by Representative Billy Rush, will hold hearings on performance enhancing drugs in sports when it comes back from the winter recess. The wrestling hearings will be part of more hearings that will cover baseball and other sports, but the two main sports will be baseball and pro wrestling. Vince needs to "thank" Barry Bonds for this one because that indictment spurred Rush on, who had in the past been concerned, but not concerned enough to call hearings, on wrestling.

Steroids give you energy and help you generate commerce.

I think baseball will take some of the heat off of wrestling.
To be honest, I'm not sure what congress can do. I heard part of the reason they hadn't announced wrestling hearings was because initially they thought it would be simple enough to clean up wrestling but then, after more research, discovered wrestling had way more problems than they thought and there wasn't much they could do.

Commerce because of (presumably) the high salaries that pro athletes (who may or may not use roids/HGH) get.
In all fairness, Vince probably needs to "thank" Marion Jones and Floyd Landis as well.

Unless Congress understand the nature of the WWE and how they book their product, they will never be able to to prevent steroid use in wrestling.

Energy and Commerce!? What the hell does energy and commerce have to do with steriods in sports? Wait a second, energy? This is all part of a plan by TNA and Panda Energy to beat the WWE. In all seriousness, TNA's boned.

With the news that Vince is closing some of the loopholes in the policy, I'm not sure what else congress can do.
Convince Vince to push smaller guys? That'll never happen. And besides these days even the smaller guys tend to be on something as well (Funaki)

Congress has zero legitimate place in professional wrestling, IMO.
Baseball is a different story, as it's a competitive sport, and a hugely important aspect of America, both culturally and economically. And yes, it's not as important as Iraq or the energy crisis, but it's still worth Congress' time. But wrestling? No way.
I've been glad to see the steps Vince has taken on his own. The only way things REALLY change in America is legal action, and unless the WWE was in a position where they were subject to wrongful death law suits. (and they're not even close to that), then they're doing OK.
If one promoter was going to win the war and rule supreme over wrestling - honestly, wrestling is pretty lucky they ended up with Vince.

Commerce would include the WWE. The WWE does business over state lines, making it subject to federal regulation. The committiee would also include the sale and distrubution of Steroids. Congress has it's widest powers over Interstate Commerce.
The purpose of hearings is to gather evidence for writting laws. Clearly Congress wants to know more about Steriods and the WWE before it makes a decision on the matter.

Unless they provide the steroids, which is what the original scandal claimed, they aren't doing anything wrong. They aren't under the same rules as MLB, who are basically a licensed monopoly.

I hope they also look into drugs in the music industry as well. Why has no one done that yet?

I hope they also look into drugs in the music industry as well. Why has no one done that yet? Because that means that Pete Doherty would get interviewed more. And no one wants that.

I hope they also look into drugs in the music industry as well. Why has no one done that yet? If that's the case, Why don't they just look into drugs and make it Illegal? Oh that's right, They already are. I'd like to see something happen and stop the HHH Loophole but it'll never happen.

This is a waste of tax money and it won't do squat. Wrestlers will still find some way to use drugs and wrestlers will still be dying.
With some the damage has already been done and no matter what these buffoons think when your time comes there's nothing that can stop it from happening.
With a lot of people despression will kick in as a result of being taken out of the game due to Congress doing what they will do to finish off wrestling. It will be hard for people to cope with their livelihood being taken away from them by Congress. There are things people have more passion for in life than anything else. That's what wrestling is for a lot of these wrestlers. With despression there's potential for a lot of bad things that can happen.
Plus, how will they stop certain wrestlers who can find work outside of the U.S. where they'll have no problem continuing on with their drug habits?
A lot of these fans, ex-wrestlers and wrestling reporters(Meltzer, Alvarez, the scrubs from the Torch) don't truly care about deaths and the well being of wrestlers. Getting Congress involved is the perfect thing to do to stick it to WWE. They're either people who favor non-WWE feds, MMA shills, people who use to work for WWE with an axe to grind or bitter over their favorite little territories from their younger days going out of business. These people are frauds.

this is indeed a waste of tax money... and while i support the policy i dont know if it will do any good... i mean Vince himself seems to be on it so unless he starts to get a lot smaller i wont even think of it as legit.

The only time Vince McMahon has even made changes when it comes to drugs in WWE has been when he faced serious scrunity. I hope Congress keeps it up. The Wellness Policy is an absolute farce. Any wrestler can pass with any steroid prescription. Whether its a prescription from a mark doctor (Benoit) or an online pharmacy (the 11 suspended wrestlers). They all pass through with flying colors. WWE wrestlers dont even need to go the designer or HGH route. The Wellness Policy the way it is too still enables things to be as they were.
