My guess is he knew he needed the surgery weeks ago so they decided to co-write it out with his legs being injured. That's not exactly how it works with emergency surgery.

Maybe MVP could do something like defend and retain the US title for a while now?

I liked how Hardy was written out kayfabe wise, and you know what?
Some faces will be fed to MVP....maybe Kane, Finlay, whatever....
Then Matt Hardy comes back 2-3 months later, ready to get revenge and win that US belt....it'll be GREAT!

Hardy needs to make his unannounced return during the Rumble.
I love Returns and Surprises in the Rumble.

Wow, that really sucks. He hasn't caught a lot of breaks lately.
Here's hoping Matt's on the mend soon.

www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/articles/4748330/hardyupdateAfter the vicious attack at the hands of United States Champion MVP last week on SmackDown and missing Survivor Series this past Sunday, things took a turn for the worse for Matt Hardy’s well-being when he arrived in Tampa, Fla., Tuesday night. WWE.com spoke to Matt Hardy moments ago and the SmackDown Superstar was in good spirits and thankful that WWE trainers and Tampa General Hospital doctors were able to identify and correct the appendicitis that could have greatly threatened his health. “I am feeling ok, I have definitely been better,” said the recovering Hardy. “The surgery lasted between 60-90 minutes, and the prognosis was that I was lucky they got in there when they did.” Matt continued, “The appendix had already ruptured, and the toxins from that rupture were poisoning my body. I am used to the aches from my career, but this was the most miserable pain I had ever experienced. I had cold chills with hot sweats, and just couldn’t find a comfortable way to lie down or sit. I felt like I was dying it was so bad.” The problem became serious when Hardy made his way to Tampa last night. “I made my way to the arena last night, and still was in such considerable pain that I went straight to the trainer’s room, and they sent me to the hospital for a CT scan.” The scan revealed the enflamed appendix, but the burst was not seen until the appendectomy was underway. Now Matt Hardy must face a road of recovery that will see him out of action much longer than he had envisioned as he chases the United States Championship held by MVP. “I will be here in the hospital until the antibiotics clean the rest of the toxins from my body, and then from there it will be anywhere from 8-10 weeks before I get back into action,” Hardy explained. When asked about his former partner and the possibility that MVP’s attack led to the bursting of his appendix and subsequent surgery, Hardy paused for a moment and then responded with a firm, “No comment.

Maybe MVP could do something like defend and retain the US title for a while now? Duder has had no problem retaining the title for a while now. Defending it, that might be tricky, since there aren't really any midcard babyfaces on the blue show that should be going after it now that Hardy is gone. It would be pretty stupid to put it on Kane or Mysterio, for instance.

You never want this to happen to a guy, and it sucks, but as far as timing goes it could not have been any better. Hardy gets his huge singles win at Wrestlemania in front of 60,000. It'll be fantastic.

I've never been a huge fan of the guy but it seems like he just can't catch a break. The MVP feud/team is the best angle he's been in since Lita/Edge (which made Edge look like a million bucks and made Hardy look like a chump), and this absence will probably kill a lot of his heat. Yes, but it's always kind of looked like Matt wasn't one of Management's favorites, and at times it looks like they've actively tried to kill his heat, so maybe this is perfectly beneficial to them. They can shift Jeff into his spot and do US vs. IC titles (interbrand) at WM, shifting Matt back down the card to make everyone else look good. I prefer Matt, and would love to see him get the US title, but even I'm not foolish enough to think that WWE will ever seriously push him. Especially not since there seems to be a rule that Matt and Jeff can't both get pushed at the same time (even though they're on seperate shows), and Jeff just started his big push....

It would be pretty stupid to put it on Kane or Mysterio, for instance. Who says that they have to put it on them if they feud with MVP for it? Besides, it makes sense for Rey to go after him since it is pretty obvious that he's friends with Matt (don't you ever notice that when they team together for any reason that Rey wears Matt's shirts instead of his own?) Feuding with Rey and Kane (and successfully retaining) will build MVP up something serious. If the WWE is smart, kayfabe-wise they should just say that MVP reinjured the surgically repaired knee in order to explain Matt's absence. They can even claim that surgery was needed. That Rumble idea is a good one, since even if he is not quite up to snuff at that point I am sure that Matt should be up for a brief run in at least. Another idea is to promote Matt's return from "injury" like they did HHH's first quad tear. It sucks, but if taken care of the right way, this could actually put Matt and MVP in a much better position by the time WM comes around.

I had an appendectomy when I was 18. The doctors told me afterward that they had caught it just before it blew. My surgery was laproscopic, which means there were three small incisions and small scars. I had a tube-and-ball sticking out of me for 10 days to drain fluid. In addition, part of the surgery involves cutting through muscle that then has to heel and be strengthened. Don't forget about the painkillers he's hooked up to and will have to withdraw from (in my case, I had a 10minute morphine drip for 5 days). I know that a professional athlete will recover quickly as long as the toxins don't cause massive infection, but the impact of bumps will keep him out a while for sure.
And the purpose of the appendix has recently been discovered. Basically, the little sac we call appendix hosts small colonies of all the helpful bacteria that live in the intestines. They are a backup/starter set for replacing bacteria that might be eliminated by a severe intestinal illness. It shouldn't be an issue for an American given today's advances in sanitation and health care, but it's a nice backup to have.

Relatively if he was working a normal job he'd be back in a week.
That's what happened to me I was 12, they said I go back to school in a week. And I did.
then again most jobs don't require you to be shirtless.

And I did. then again most jobs don't require you to be shirtless. Well, in most normal jobs you aren't being repeatedly hit in the stomach, either. I feel really bad for Matt, but this could potentially end up being a huge payoff for him. Now this gives an excuse for the feud with MVP to be stretched out until 'Mania. Matt's been getting a fairly good push as of late, and I think he'll have some momentum behind him when he returns.

I'm shocked that it takes that long to recover from that. It seems like a long time... I mean, there's no rehab, is there? I know it's a serious thing, and I hope he plays it safe, because I like Matt, but it just seemed like a long time to me.
