Post your thoughts on current/retired workers you think would be good as announcers 2-5 years down the road after the old guard (Lawler, JR) retire.
Ventura seems really over the hill at this point, but it would be great to hear from him again.
Tommy Dreamer seems like he'd be a good fit for the WWECW table, but that brand will probably be dead within 12 months.
Foley was also OK on babyface color, though the company seems to prefer heel/tweener color.
DiBiase did pretty good the few times he was by ringside, though I don't know what terms he left the company on.
In a pinch, I don't think I'd mind Rotunda getting on commentary. He was a pretty decent talker and a heck of a worker, could probably cover matches pretty well. Maybe heel color as the IRS character.
Al Snow is OK (not great, but OK). Since the guy's been with the company for a while, he's probably in line to get called up from OVW at some point.
Too bad Booker left on not-that-great terms since he was actually pretty OK on color the few times he put on a headset. Probably not going to happen for a long, long time since he seems more interested in running his fed and hanging out with TNA.
I'm sure they'd probably consider Flair for a color man, but they could do a lot better.

I have to be the only guy who thought Ventura was a horrible announcer.

John Lithgow (the father off 3rd rock from the sun) has a perfect voice for commentry, but i doubt he will because he is rich and famous.

For announcers on RAW after King and JR shuffle off, lets see...
Honky Tonk Man would be good with Foley Al Snow and Coach would be great if Coach can stop acting like an ass, (even though hes good at it) Triple H once he retires would be a good guy to help put over talent. Dusty Rhodes the greatest talker in the business would be great too with Ric Flair.
Larry Zybesko did commentary in a game once that was decent.

Well, he's a former wrestler... so Josh Matthews. I think he's solid enough on commentary to handle either ECW or SD.
Honestly, I think after JR is gone, Cole is probably a shoe-in to take over his spot. As for King... Regal. Regal has a million one liners (much like King and Heenan), a great voice and I imagine would be a license to print money.

Dusty was not that good in WCW in my opinion and he's only gotten older and slower, and probably less intelligible. Honky might be interesting but could we really see him there every week? His gimmick is really shallow in an old-school kind of way. There's only so many puns you can make with Elvis song titles. For those who haven't seen Rotunda when he actually gets a chance to talk, here's one of his classic IRS bits and here's his NWA/WCW re-introduction.

I agree that Cole is probably next in line for JR's spot, but in my opinion, JBL should get Lawler's. That guy is great, very knowledgeable about old-school wrestling too.

Oh, and it's a shame Vince doesn't like Raven. Raven was great at color, imo, as Johnny Polo. Having him go by his real name, I think he'd be great at explaining storylines and psychology.

I want to hear Regal shill Fruit Stripes gum and advertise free bawling Nash and Hall, I don't know. you risk one being uh personal demons and the other I don't know. I hear Nash and I think prick even though I think his strength is in his promos. SPEAKING OF PROMOS, how about Scott Steiner on commentary? I remember that line about being a butt sucking bastard.

I liked Josh Matthews. His voice just seemed to flow along with the action. I also wouldn't mind Al Snow.

Bobby Heenan. Thread over.
Am I the only one who legitimately wants Sean Mooney back? He could just show up out of nowhere and do commentary, and act like it was still 1992.
I'd like to see Vince McMahon do the exact same thing after not being on TV for about 3 months. He could just show up for commentary one day thinking it's still 1995. Heel Mr. McMahon is so old, but face commentator Vince McMahon would be so refreshing. Especially if they could get Ventura to do it with him.
Who else?... Larry Zybysko would be good. Ted DiBiase. Raven. Superstar Ghram. hmmm...Jim Neidhart was good in 91, but he had Gorilla and Heenan making him sound better. Roddy Piper and Randy Savage are excellent commentators. Jim Cornette, while technically not a wrestler, was great on commentary in 97, and I think he would be again.

Honestly, No. In 2002, during the nWo reformation, he and Shawn did commentary for a nWo match on RAW. It was HORRIBLE. All they kept spouting were kilque insider terms that, I for one, didn't understand.
