This is something that I have always wondered about.
How are the wrestlers paid?
Do they get say, a contract that says x amount of money for x amount of matches?
Or do they get x amount of money for whatever the WWE wants them to do during the life of the contract?
And are smaller feds different? Someone told me they pay by what the wrestler is willing to do, like stiff chair shots, dangerous moves like piledrivers, blading, etc.
I would love that job, as the person who counts the stuff done, like x amount for a blade job, x amount for a dangerous move, etc.
And if they are in contracts, if a wrestler say, 6 months into a 2 year contract becomes very popular, thus drawing more money - are they locked into the pre-popular amount in the contract?
And finally, from what I understand, none of the wrestlers have health insurance from directly from the WWE, no medical, dental, optical, etc. I have read that Vince McMahon decides to pay for wrestlers injuries from time to time - if he feels that wrestler is 'worth it'.
Educate me! ( and probably others )
P.S. And how about the merchandise? How do they cut that, or does the WWE get all the cash?

RVD did an interview in powerslam about this....
He said his checks for the ecw house shows were insultingly low (like 600 dollars and he was a main eventer) but the royalties check came a few times a year and they were a fortune. He said he got close to $100,000 for that one match with Cena at ONS.

they probably get some cut of the merchandise... but not too much... i dunno about any of that but it would be cool if the more you did, the more money you would make... Foley would have made a hell of a lot more than anyone else

From what I understand, it's a very complicated thing based on the contract negotiated, tenure with the company, spot on the card, PPV appearances(and how well that PPV does, ie get paid more for Wrestlemania than Cyber Sunday), merchandise sales, house shows, autograph signings, etc.

I remember hearing something about wwe wrestlers only getting 2-3% of merchandise profit and the rest goes to WWE. I'm not sure how true that is though.

Likeness rights for t-shirts, video games etc must be quite lucrative, and I would assume that the more entertainment you provide, the more you get paid.

I'm pretty sure it varies by superstar...
Jamie Noble is paid a percentage of his merchandise....he works for free.
On the flip side Austin most have an assload of cash from his merch, there's like a new shirt every three months when he resurfaces.
Triple H gets paid by the amount of O-face Stehp sees.
Randy Ortin is paid by the rest hold.
Khali is paid by the pound, and not by how many moves he knows.
Undertaker's pay is offset by his pyro, he makes like 20 bucks a month.
John Cena is paid by the boo level of arenas, cause as JR loves to point out he's 'controversial'
Edge is paid a million dollars a minute, and deserves it.
Rey is paid excatly $6.19 for each beating he takes. Which is why he takes so many.
JR is paid by the phrase, each time he says sloberknocker, or Glamazon, there's a deposit in his bank account.
Mark Henry is paid in small jobbers he can squash.
Snitsky is paid by the bad gimmick.
Batista is paid directly from Triple H's rectum, Ric Flair too, but he's overdrawn...divorce and all.
Kane is paid in empty title runs.
Micki James is paid to be buried.
The King is paid in Diva Search cast offs.

Whatever you can negotiate basically.
Hogan at one point was supposedly getting a private jet, his own locker room etc.
I highly doubt Funaki gets the same.

Apparantly a superstar can earn money by doing publicity events for the WWE, press conferences, trophy dates, photo shoots and runway appearances at "movie events"
BUT WATCH OUT
doing to much of this will apparantly wear you out so remember to book some relaxation time and get the odd massage here and there or your superstar will be injured
Once a WWE superstar has enough money theres no look in for the wife and kids, instead the superstar will choose to blow all his morgatage at the WWE shop buying movesets and alternative outfits so he can carry out his daily duties in more than just his speedos, saving him further embarassment and losing of standing in the community.
Also a WWE superstar can choose to purchase a legend, for example Carlito has recently purchased Terry Funk and the ghost of Rick Rude and has put them to task on bilding him a conservatory.
Thats How I Think It Works

Usually the wrestlers are paid in candy corn. This is why I will never become a wrestler.

The simple answer is, you get a cut of how much money you pull in.

For the most part, most wrestlers have a "downside guarantee", which is an amount they get paid regardless of how many times they were used per show and/or ppv. And then they get a certain percentage of the gate, merchandise, dvd sales, etc. based off where they are on the card (literally). The closer to the main event you are, the higer the percentage.
Then, of course there are the guaranteed contracts, but since WCW folded, I don't know how many of those there still are.

Then, of course there are the guaranteed contracts, but since WCW folded, I don't know how many of those there still are. Big show still had one, as did Mark Henry until recently. If I recall correctly, Jericho was saying in interviews that he would require a considerable guaranteed contract (at least $500-750 grand), but who knows as far as that goes?
