So they work for company, even though they don't fully understand the pay structure? That makes sense Really though, it's not as rare as you think. A lot of people don't know exactly what goes into or comes out of their paycheck, even when their pay structure isn't as complicated. There's no reason to believe that wrestlers would be any smarter. Hell, those that don't have it figured out likely just know that their paychecks are more than they would be elsewhere, so they don't care a whole lot exactly what algorithm is used to determine it. How can you not know what goes into your paycheck? That's the whole basis of a pay slip. A company the size of WWE will obviously have to give employees a pay slip for tax reasons. So yes, wrestlers will know how they get paid

How can you not know what goes into your paycheck? That's the whole basis of a pay slip. A company the size of WWE will obviously have to give employees a pay slip for tax reasons. So yes, wrestlers will know how they get paid Ask the random person on the street exactly what they make, including the value of their benefits and the costs of their taxes and, odds are, many will be wrong in some way. When you try to factor in all of the details of it, a lot of people really are in the dark about what those little itemized lines on a pay stub (if they even get a physical pay stub anymore, as opposed to a direct deposit) truly mean. That doesn't mean I'm saying "X doesn't know what he's making", nor does it mean that they don't know what they are making per match. It only means that a lot of people still don't truly know what goes into their paycheck when they have a simple pay structure to deal with, so it wouldn't be surprising at all that a person working in a company with a complex pay structure didn't know exactly what percentage of the take he got from royalty and likeness fees. And a company WWE's size can easily get away with using direct deposits that wouldn't necessarily have such itemized details, particularly with the very nature of it's business. Believe it or not, a hell of a lot of people don't go beyond the basics when they don't have a slip of paper in their hands. Even if they do have a slip of paper, it will be an itemized item telling them how much their royalty or PPV appearance value was, not the formula used to create it.

Usually the ones on open contracts get more than on written contracts, as these are paid by the appearance, rather than by the month.
In the past though, some wrestlers haven't wanted to sign written deals because they have Japanese tour commitments, or they could earn more money doing their independent work.
So I've heard.

Indie wrestlers get paid in corn dogs and small bags of Fritos.
