I know some of us still mark out for many a glorious moment; and we've known for the longest time that pro wrestling is sports entertainment. But...
When did you stop being a true mark?
Mine would have to be Bret's heel turn. Actually, the reforming of the Hart Foundation as a whole! Up until then, I was still a mark in the Heel VS. Face sense. I remember wanting Owen and Bulldog to lose the Tag Team Championship the night after WrestleMania 13, 'cause Bulldog would still be the European Champion and I wanted that "dastardly" Owen to be without a title.
But then, when Bret turned heel, that was the moment I truly stopped letting the writers influence my decision on who I rooted for. I just couldn't turn my back on a "villain" Bret. And of course, when the new Hart Foundation united, Owen was instantly restored as a face in my book!

Once you make the transformation into smark, it apparently isn't long before you find this place.

As sad as it is, the day I first logged onto the Internet. That was the day my "markdom" truly died. I was 10 at the time. The dirt sheets, the smarks, everything. Granted, I'd known wrestling was a predetermined sport for a long time, but the backstage gossip and the NEWZ! sites really killed the magic for me.

Early attitude era, to put a finer point on it.

I was never a 'mark' who cheers faces over heels. It was always the other way round for me because I was always a Mr Perfect, early HBK etc mark.
First time I understood how the business really works is when I read a detailed article on the screwjob from 97.

Even though Ive always known it was predetermined, the internet truly ruined wrestling in that respect for me around 2002.Before then,I didnt click on sites like this and know about who was going where, storylines that were going to happen, upcoming title switches, rumours etc etc.I used to love NOT knowing what was going to happen.First time I cheered a heel would PROBABLY be The Rock in 1999,but then Triple H came along in very late 1999/2000 as the ultimate heel, and he would probably stand out as the real first time I cheered majorly for a heel.

The first match I watched was Bret Hart vs Mr Perfect, and I wanted Bret to win because he looked cool and Perfect looked like a bit of a dick.
When I started watching it every week after that, Perfect was one of my favourites, as was Million Dollar Man and Sid Justice.
So, basically, after the first match.

I'd say about 1997 but deep down, I'm still a mark. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be watching WWE.

You don't ceace being a mark if you cheer a heel over a face. You're just an individual. Being a amrk means you think it's an actual sporting competition, rahter than a predetermined athletic show. I was a mark until early 2000. By then, I knew the feuds were mostly there to add drama, and the gimmicks weren't how the people were in real life, but I thought the wrestling part was real. I was 16 at the time, and I'd had the internet, and had been reading wrestlign news sites(except ones with spoilers) for about a year. People had told me it was fake for years, but I didn't believe them. I was a hard sell.
And you know what, it was better back then. I would gladly give up all my knowledge of the inner workings to be a mark again who thinks it's a legitimate sport.

Sometime in 1997. I was in 7th grade, and my friends and I just started putting together the "real" picture about wrestling.
Still, I am and will always be a mark, else I wouldn't watch.

people would always tell me that wrestling was fake, and over the years i was starting to believe them, but when triple h came back in 2002, it was over for me.
it was painfully obvious that he would win the royal rumble, and the belt at wrestlemania. i knew wrestling wasn't on the up and up when that happened.
another turning piont was when stone cold dropped triple h's car off that forklift, and hunter didn't die. he was on tv the next week i think.
being a mark is fun though. thinking stone cold was really savagely run over by a car. people getting fired......stuff like that is fun to watch.

Dunno really I stopped watching about 2002 and only started watching again last summer. When I was little I was a standard mark, hating all the heels and liking all the faces but these days I just like anybody
