I dont know why I didnt like him when he was active but now that I look back the guy really was funny. Him and Jericho seem like real people. Why the hell do people cheer when they hear their citys name? It really does annoy me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym6g-whS_00&feature=related

It's called a Cheap Pop for a reason, people love hearing someone awesome talk about their own little special corner of the world. Don't think I've ever been to a concert where it hasn't happened at least once per performer.

I only appreciated the Rock as a heel. As a face he was restricted, predictable and just nowhere near as good on the mic as he was when he was a heel.

I think that the Rock didn't get the love that he deserved from hardcore fans who thought that he was nothing but catchphrases. I miss him in a huge way right now and WWE would be so much better if the Rock was around. The Rock is the only guy that could get away with using many catchphrases and the use of the People's Elbow. Only the Rock was great enough to make that move the most electrifing move in sports and entertainment. I also loved it when the King would go crazy when the Rock did the People's Elbow. I miss that big time.

Rock was a wrestler focused on the old-head approach of getting maximum crowd heat and had little interest in the semi-realistic performances that Jericho and Benoit were using.
I remember back on how much support from the IWC Benoit got in his feud with the Rock and I can't help but compare it to the flat-out disdain Cena gets from the IWC now- and there are some remarkable differences that make me understand it a little.
Cena gets ragged on for being booked as always overcoming the odds, and Rock lost/got successfully screwed over a lot for a top face (though he did win some handicap matches). Cena gets complaints for being a goody-two-shoes, and face Rock was not a nice guy at all. Very few adult males openly cheer for Cena, and guys got behind the Rock.
It's weird.

What made the Rock so much better than a lot of chain wrestlers is because he was more spontaneous in the ring. The Rock could wrestle a brawling match or he could wrestle a technical match if need be. He didn't have to adhere to the same tired formula of executing this move after this move per se. Some people may call Flair a predictable chain wrestler but what set him apart was that he was 100 percent more charismatic and over than chain wrestlers you see today. People love to see great wrestling moves but they also want to care about the wrestler also. Guys like Flair and the Rock has personalities compared to many chain wrestlers.

Fun Fact: During the post-Wrestlemania XIX Raw show, during Rock Appreciation Night, I was actively shouting at poeple to stop booing him and start showing him appreciation.

It's weird. 1990s changed everything. Although, I could see todays Cena getting cheered in the 1980s.
