Ah, it was the jeans that confused me, how silly of me.
A curse on me for not noting whose crotch it was.

Anyway, my brother told me during his peak years(1996) that he was bi, don't know if that's true either. You are Shawn Michaels' brother?

what the hell? he was supposed to be essentially what a metrosexual is today..... you know how chicks think omarion is the greatest thing ever but most guys think he sucks? oh and the wonderful wrestling has NOTHING to do with it.... A metrosexual is supposed to pull his trunks down to unveil his pubes as a post-match celebration? A metrosexual is supposed to dress in glitter, chaps, and whatever else Shawn was wearing at the time and gyrate to cheesy music? I'm always about 5 years late on pop culture fads, so please enlighten me on what exactly Shawn was supposed to be, because it's been over a decade and I still can't figure it out. I was in my latter years of high school in 1995-96. Trust me, the WWF was considered about the gayest TV show out there at the time, and I'm not trying to hyperbolize it. Between Shawn's push and Goldust french kissing other men, it was embarrassing. I stopped watching the WWF in late-95/early-96 almost entirely because of Shawn, and I know I'm not alone in that. It wasn't until the nWo when things slowly started changing for wrestling as a whole. The "wonderful wrestling" lost the WWF a lot of money and fans (including me) during that time. At least with Nash I could understand the push (he at least looked the part). I'll never in my life understand Shawn's push.

I guess it was a tad gay. He was very good looking when he was young, before the hair started to recline and his face began to look drawn, I never fancied him that much myself but for that time he did have quite the appeal, especially when you consider the big 300lb apes that there were around at that time.
To be fair they always did their best to avoid any gay connotations by sticking Sherri with him and making it very clear in the theme music that it's the girls that he 'drives wild'.
I've always imagined the conversation between Vince and Shawn when McMahon first pitched the idea for the gimmick.
Vince: Shawn I've got this idea. HBK: Shoot boss. Vince: Well I've been up for days thinking about this one. I haven't been able to sleep I'm so excited. HBK: Sounds great, what is it? Vince: Well Shawn.....you're very sexy. HBK: 'whatcho talkin' bout Vince?

Well, obviously not a curce on me for not noting Edge's crotch, but it was a joke anyway.

Shawn 1995-97 wore stuff you couldn't believe.
He went from male stripper to borderline Liberace for no reason I can think of.

Did they for real? I don't know. I do know that people lost their damn minds when he went from Rocker to Sexy Boy. You'd think he was humping their moms in the ring the way they got upset.
Any of that "Shawn is Gay" rhetoric comes from male wrestling fans flipping out that he was being used to attract female fans. Wrestlers weren't supposed to be teh sexxors, they were supposed to be Stan Hansen.

I think even Trips in the HBK documentary said he looked like he was playing for the other team.

Because they weren't blatant about it. Austin and Steamboat were still seen in more traditional roles that wrestling fans were used to. If women liked them (and did women like Austin as a Blond? I never got that), then it was peripheral to their initial role as wrestler. Shawn was sexy. His song said he was sexy. His outfit was sexy. His ring entrance was sexy. He had a woman (Sherri - kickass!) who told you he was sexy. There was no getting away from it. Usual WWF/E subtlety. ;D

I know I'd have to either turn off the TV or change the channel when that was on as I can't see any straight male going "ALRIGHT SHAWN TAKE IT OFF!!!".

God, I hated Shawn back in 1996. He was way better as a heel.

It was also designed to piss guys off. Not because he was 'gay', but because he was a heel and 'loads sexier than any of you, so I'm gonna rub it in your face.' And instead of guys being pissed at him the way that they were at Rick Rude, who was put out there as sexy but not in a way that made your girlfriend who was dragged along to scream in joy...

True, except he was doing it as a face right around the time of his first WWF title win and after the injury he suffered in 95 so I think they did want you to cheer for him at that point.
