A finisher is supposed to finish your opponent, so what's the point of having a finish if your opponent is Triple H? i believe we can close this thread now... too good

Only one person can use the pumphandle slam, the overdrive, and the cutter at a time? Kinda limits options/

A solid argument, but...
What if your opponent is Carlito?
Then you MUST have a finisher!
YouTube user Suicidal Dragon has like a shitload of vids of different moves from around the world. Check them out.

You can whip out the Brad Armstrong approved russian leg-sweep if you're fighting Carlito.
And yeah,Suicidal Dragon does have some killer vids.

finishers are overrated, I wish wrestlers didn't have specific finishers. Do boxers have finisher punches? Do MMA guys have finishers? Do fighting game characters have finishers?
I hate that in WWE a match cannot end without somebody hitting their finisher. It makes them look weak. It makes them seem like a cartoon rather creating the illusion of skilled athelete many tools in their arsenal.

yah actually boxers do have trademark punches, so do mma guys have signature strikes, takedowns, and submissions.
that's why they are called specialist with that certain type of striking they love to implore. chuck liddell's finish is an overhand right.
for example.
IN wwe a lot of matches end with a schoolboy, a victory roll, that weird bridging roll-up, or a small package
Also fighting game characters do have finishers:
In capcom/snk games they are called super moves.
In games like Guilty Gear or Mortal Kombat or Samurai Showdown they are called fatalities

Aren't Santino and the Majors the only guys who don't currently have finishers. I'm pretty sure everyone else does.
But then again, I'm usually wrong.

finishers are overrated, I wish wrestlers didn't have specific finishers. Do boxers have finisher punches? Do MMA guys have finishers? Do fighting game characters have finishers? Boxers and MMA fighters fight in real life fights, so of course finishers aren't used. Fighting game characters with finishers...must we forget the Fatalities in Mortal Kombat? "Finish Him!" Wrestling's "fake" and since the main goal is to create drama, what can add more drama than getting hit with a finisher out of nowhere? A wrestler needs trademark moves and finishers so that the fans can expect certain effects to happen. Once they're established, then the drama can be amplified since they can start messing with it. MVP and Carlito are definitely guys that could benefit from a good finisher. And that lame "put my leg over your head and flip you over" deal makes no sense. I see no reason for it to work

signature moves are not the same as finishers
and I was thinking of video games like Tekken or Virtua Fighter. But, in those games that super moves, they usually has 2 or 3 super moves, not just 1.
I would be pissed if I played a fighting game where you could only finish a match by doing one specific manuever. And if you dont execute that move , the match just goes on forever. that would suck

Some guys don't have a finisher because they're not gonna need one...
Some guys just got a finisher off the "finishers' recycle bin" (overdrive, STO, big boot), as they're gonna win few matches so it doesn't matter what move they use.
Anyway I do feel Finishers are overused in WWE. Especially when they are performed several times in a match.
If it's meant to be SO devastating, nobody, and I mean nobody, should be able to kick out. Maybe only the SuperChamp at Wrestlemania. But if the finisher pops up two-three times per match, it loses its uniqueness.
Having every match ending with the finisher is a bad choice IMO. If it's supposed to be "real", I'd rather have something more "unpredictable" than a Fatality...

Every match doesn't end with a finisher though. I don't know where you're getting that idea from, but a lot of the time you'll see a school boy roll up or something of that nature.

I hated alot of those moves honestly. Alot of them just have ludicrously pointless set ups and look incredibly wonky. I've always preferred sleek simple moves myself.

Some of those moves look cool but can only be performed on opponents of the same size. Not so suitable on WWE where most guys are heavier than 200lbs...
And a finisher shouldn't need 15 seconds of set-up or on-air fidgeting and adjustments.
Simple, out of nowhere and adaptable: these are the main criteria to make a good finisher

Anything more complicated than a Pedigree has no business being a finisher IMO.

If we're talking over-complex finishers, the Unprettier is the best example of a move that takes forever to set up. I mean, I can see how it would finish a match (your face is driven into the mat), but there's so many ways of getting out of it, it's madness.
