the world class dvd produced by the wwe did a good job in presenting the history of WCCW but it did not go into as much detail as the heroes of world class dvd did in regards to some of the wrestling storylines and the behind the scenes coverage. i think the events of earlier this year censored the dvd a bit.
it was important to have the main players in wccw on there, like bill mercer, skandar akbar (dressed in character), gary hart, kevin von erich, michael hayes. it gave the dvd authenticity considering how few people are left from that era.
i felt that the freebirds/von erich rivalry could have gone into more detail but considering that only a couple of the people in that rivalry are still alive, its hard to knock that.
i think that ric flair could have spoken more about working with the von erichs cause he was the one of the few people that did work with all of them at one point besides the freebirds.
the wwe dvd focused on the major deaths of the superstars of WCCW, but again did not go into as much detail as it could have.
it was hard watching kevin von erich speak when he talked about the deaths of his brothers. when he said that he went going from being a big brother to not even being a brother anymore was perhaps the hardest hitting line in the dvd.
i think this dvd is a good supplimentary dvd to the heroes of world class dvd, but in order to see the whole story as much as possible, you would need to watch the heroes of world class dvd first, then watch this dvd.
however, i give the wwe a lot of props for this dvd but it could have been better. perhaps some comments from more texas wrestlers like steve austin and JBL, just to talk about the impact of texas wrestling when they were young. the wwe was pushing themselves as the #1 company while telling the story and it felt that was forced in.
Overall, I felt that this was a good dvd, and to see the old world class footage was awesome. i remember when wccw was on espn everyday at 1pm when i was younger and i used to tape it and try to imitate the von erich's moves.
what does everyone else think?
