I personally don't see what the big deal about Heyman is... ECW was a distant third during the Monday Night Wars, whoop de doo. All of his decent ideas were refined by the WWE who actually were successful. Your point is valid, but Heyman established a brand that even though you claim a distance third, was well known throughout the entire wrestling market, and had some mainstream appeal. He didn't inherent a big brand as did Vince or Bischoff that people already knew the name of, he had to market his ECW brand... and he was successful at that. By the time they were going out of business, there's a debate as to whether or not they were the #2 promotion. Their house show gates FAR surpassed WCW and their buyrates were typicaly better without a television contract. To a company like TNA, they see this as extremely valuable. Heyman establishes a brand, is known as an extremely good booker (OVW and Smackdown in addition to ECW), and he brings a lot of connections into other markets right now. He also constantly was creating new stars in ECW, some of which still have marketability today.

It's a shame TNA has shotgun booking. Every time they've ever made Eric the "DDP" of TNA, it feels right like when he jumped Hall and Waltman and the crowd was just going wild. It could have been a defining moment..
However, TNA just can't get the idea that someone can't just get over on being a guy that the fans love.. and tinker with it too much.
Such a shame.

My one hope is the use of their real themes, not TNA generic themes...

Raven gave Hulk a death stare during this promo. Most of the guys didn't seem thrilled with it. It wreaked of Dixie going "Hulk, go out there with them! You'll look so cute together!"
I liked "Abyss, you need to get up in a psychiatrists chair brother" with Stevie in the ring...

"Private interview".. you mean a conversation with a fan who reads a wrestling dirt sheet?
I hate this kind of thing.

Am I the only one that's going to mark for Raven/Dreamer? I don't care how broken down they are... years later, I will still mark.

I actually ordered this PPV for the Styles/Daniels Vs. LAX match. This was the last time I shelled out money for a PPV.

One. It gets him more heat which in turn gets more face reaction for his opponent. Two. Remember what happened to Droz...

Yeah. I was at that Summer Slam where Edge beat him... You could just feel the air sucked out of the feud.

Am I alone in thinking Chelsea looks like a young Mary-Lynn Rajskub: ![](http://thetvlegion.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/mary_lynn_rajskub.jpg) Maybe.. but ... uh.. Chelsea is attractive.

Wooooo. RVD vs Jerry Lynn. I'm sorry, but I spent so many hours rewatching their matches from ECW that I don't care how broken down these guys are... I just want to watch it again and revisit some nostalgia from childhood.
And seriously, if Fonzie is not in RVDs corner, I riot.

I really wish I remember who started the Slim Jim theory here. I just remember it was in one of these threads and someone said "I bet Vince was more mad about the Slim Jim sponsorship going to WCW than anything". Never heard it before. Then since that time... I've heard it a lot more places.

For all the surprise and excitement for the angle, though, there would simply still be no disguising how over-the-hill most of the ECW veterans are. Arguably it'd be worse that way, because people will be all hyped and then crushed when they see poor tubby, balding Raven brawling in slo-mo. At least this way, the bar of expectations about what they can do is sufficiently lowered. And you never know, maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised. I have to agree - I watched it this morning on TNA's youtube channel and it just came off very lame. Especially considering Al Snow - who is on ECW's side - reacted with a "WHAT?" when Dixie announced that she invited them. What? No one told Al Snow. The angle fell flat to me. Who are the heels? Who are the faces? TNA has so many storylines that do not reveal the character's motivation that adding another just seems redundant. I hope they are able to salvage this shipwreck. The thing with Al seems to be an editing miscue... something Kendrick or soemone did to provoke Al and Diamond to help their friends.

Face vs Face matches didn't really get big with Vince until the 90's. I believe Bret vs Piper for the IC title was the first big one.

I was 11 years old at that time, and I cried when Hulk Hogan turned heel. Hogan was like Superman in the wrestling business, a man with good ethics that fights bad guys. I never cared at the time about Hogan hogging the spotlight years ago in WCW, as I liked his matches with Ric Flair and Big Van Vader. When Hogan turned heel and joined up with Hall and Nash, I was confused since the latter 2 were huge name stars of the post-Hogan era. Later on, I went on the NWO bandwagon, as I loved the takeovers they do every week and their NWO type matches they show that is Black in White. Yep. That sounds like me exactly.
