It was not exactly clumsy, but when Jeff first said Slapnuts it was okay. Then the next Nitro he and the rest of WCW said it 1,003 times or more moves then Dean Malenko knows. I just watched a Nitro from '01 where the phrase jumped the shark to a ridiculous degree as he called Ric Flair a "SLAP-ASS." True, but terrible all the same.

"Shawn Michaels has left the building!" "WHO CARES!?" /quote] Except A) that wasn't catchprase, and B) it was freakin' awesome. and was meant to be annoying. Exactly. They should bring it back and use it with someone like Kennedy.

When Big Show first started in WWE, like a month after Wrestlemania he started saying something like "and thats the last line" or "and thats the last thought" or something to that nature at the end of every promo for a few weeks.

4 real.
I love how the "for" is a "4" to try and make Benoit seem hip and cool.

I always thought Konnan's speech when he was in the Wolfpac was so weak. Yes, he got people to chant it, but it was clearly a "Hey guys, I wanna be cool like Hall and Nash too please let me do something like that pleasepleasepleasePLEASE? Hooray! Let me speak on DISSS!" cry for attention. Poor Konnan. And Vince's "Ruthless Aggression" promo was so terrible.

Not a catchphrase, but I always hated Edge's "You Think You Know Me" song. It's just so wierd. I always created kind of an awkward vibe. Was that a man or a woman singing? It was like they wanted to make Edge seem like an androgynous, angsty teenager. "You think you know me. You think you know me. You think you know me. You're just a puppet." If I were in the WWE and they gave me that music, I'd refuse. No thanks, I'll come out to silence before I come out to that crap. That's actually to this day my favourite theme of Edge's. As far as WWE music goes, it's a pretty cool little mindf***, which was good for the sort of character he was playing at the time. I just thought it had an awesome sound. And so what if a chick was singing the lyrics? When Christian had the Waterproof Blonde theme, was that supposed to make him androgynous as well just because a chick was singing his music? That's just the weirdest logic I've ever heard.

It occured to me last night that 'What?' is wrestlings 'Freebird!!!' (not the Michael Hayes/Terry Gordy variety). The fans taking something decent and running it deeply into the ground.
I agree that alot of the Rock's stuff seemed ultra contrived, granted he was charismatic but they pushed it too far.
Also, John Morrison's Palace of Wisdom shtick seems so unnatural for him. It would be grand if he could ream it off like some rock star who thinks they have a world philosophy, but it's patently obvious that he has been given this specific set of phrases to work into his promos. It sounds to me like half the time he doesn't even understand what he is saying.
Not a catchphrase, but HHH has too many damn nicknames, I will never refer to him as the king of kings, it will always make me think of that ridiculous wrestlemania entrance, also I wonder how Shawn feels about 'the king of kings', what with bowing down to the other king of kings and all

Wow I forgot about John Morrison's Palace of Wisdom/Shaman of Sexy/*Noun* of *other noun* awkwardness. But that's more because he does not have the mic skills or charisma to pull off BEING JIM MORRISON.

Which feeds into my theory that the entire gimmick of him and the Miz teaming together (or feuding) was two high schoolers from different social circles.

The fact that he was even using those phrases in TNA speaks volumes about Konnan, I think. They were trying to make us buy this as the "Era of Ruthless Aggression", of course, it was such a dumb idea that fans rejected it.

"This is for the women who want to be me, and for the men who come to see me"
- it doesn't get any worse than that.
Also, not catchphrases, but HBK in 1997 trying to get his new "The Initial Outlaw" nickname over failed miserably. As did Jim Ross's repeated attempts to call Undertaker "The Conscience of the WWF".
