UFC's glory-boy got KTFO, I don't think that was in Dana White's plan. Now Rampage is champ and Dana has to roll with that.

In Terry Funks autobiography, he writes how he believes that eventually MMA will overtake wrestling, and become more and more of a worked spectacle as time passes, if only to protect established stars. Yeah, I was about to quote this. It was also brought up in one of WWE's stockholder meetings about UFC and its competition to WWE. They said they're completely different and one advantage the WWE has is that they can build up a star however they want, whereas if UFC builds someone up (like a Liddel for instance) and gets KO'd badly by someone underneath, it can hurt their star power and investment. Funk predicted that eventually they'll have predetermined finishes so top stars could be protected and make more money. And the cycle would continue

The UFC is not a work, the work is in the build up of the fight, they do it in boxing, Basketball, and even football.
If it was a work there wouldn't be so many damn upsets.
people get "pushed" and "protected" based on their popularity, that's why we're not seeing Couture vs. Cro Cop, Couture vs. Big Nog, Couture vs. Barnett (who just laid out a challenge), or others.
The guys who are protected don't need the protecting really IMO.
Jardine/Liddell could be a good fight to get chuck back on track.
WHat I don't get is that UFC is so full of bandwagon fans that you're only as good as your last match...i hate that mentality
I also hate the amount of brohs that watch MMA I hate brohs

I guess it's a southern california thing.
But brohs are dudes who wear their hats to the side, wear sunglasses from blackfly/oakley, wear black/dark grey dickies with knee high black socks and of course DC shoes.
They are mostly white, but there are black, mexican, and even asians who are brohs.
They often are moody, are seen drinking from a red cup, and have stupid tribal tatoos.

If UFC hires Vince Russo there will be worked shoots. You know that will happen sooner or later since Russo always finds a job despite the lack of any real talent. Once Russo's on board Joe Rogan will use terms like "ribs" and "smart marks" while doing commentary and one fighter will turn flamboyantly gay and Judy Bagwell will show up for no real reason and Russo will crown himself UFC heavyweight champion and defend the title against Steven Seagal in a title on a pole fight.

I don't think fights are pre-determined in the UFC, although there are cases of worked MMA fights (read: Takada's PRIDE fights, pretty much every Severn fight over the past 5 years). I more so think that White has his "Golden Boys" and tries his best to keep them in the spotlight. A recent Jason Barnett interview also re-affirmed this theory as he stated that himself and others have noticed White blatantly favoring certain fighters over others in order to maximize PPV draws and publicity. I think the UFC needs a concrete ranking system to better judge #1 contenders and match-making, because at the moment it just seems like White is throwing s*** at the wall trying to see what sticks.
Oh yeah, I also think that White encourages trash-talking and "promos" from his fighters, which ironically makes the UFC seem like professional wrestling, something its constantly trying to seperate itself from, and it also damages the mainstream legitimacy of the UFC, something its trying to overtake from boxing.
Long story short: Dana White is clown shoes.

The outcomes are not predetermined but many of the fights are skewed one way or another to favor one of the competitors. Not all, not even most, but it's not a small number either. Many of the fighters have said that they're coached on what to say in the interviews so that the fights get more buys. Nate Quarry has said he was told to say that Franklin has a weak chin.

Gonzaga beating Cro Cop thus ending a ppv between Cro Cop and "Captain America"; if it's worked then WWE creative must be behind it. I'd say Russo but that would have resulted in Cro Cop being repackaged as Cutting Cro Cop. He'd be an 80's MTV type character complete with parachute pants and a rat tail hair do.
"Yeah, Randy Couture going over Tim Sylvia is realistic."
Surely that's a joke or you've never seen Timmy Bi-polar fight more than once. The guy's more up and down then a whore on the 1st and 15th of every month.

So UFC is essentially what pro wrestling USED to be like and will eventually evolve (or devolve, depending on your point-of-view) into what pro wrestling is now? That's a pretty interesting view.
