Previously, I've been very resistant against buying a 360 because of various reasons and that I was set on getting a PS3. But seeing as Sony has screwed up so royally with the PS3 and hearing about the great online service the 360 has I'm beginning to think again. I'd love to have both, of course, but can't afford to. I already have a Wii btw.

For some reason, I' ve got a feeling that 2008 will be the year of the PS3.
Well, it can' t get any worse, so...

360
More games and the ones that are multi format (Orange Box etc) run better on the 360.
If you do get a PS3 get a USA one (Backwards compatability & Cheaper), UK versions are crap

360 although admittedly, I say that because I've had problems with Sony in the past. Perhaps someone can give you the pros and cons for a PS3. My 360 Pros and Cons are:
Pros: Amazing online community. Live Arcade Ability to stream video, pictures, and audio from your CPU (Which I finally figured out how to do yesterday!) Achievements (Really cool incentives that mark milestones in your games.)
Cons: Customer Service people barely speak English Likely to get Red ring of death (When the system overheats.) Online can get slow on weekends.

360, simply because it has a much stronger library at present. The PS3 does have some potentially great exclusives in the works, but judging a system based on what its prospects might be in a year's time is illogical.

Customer Service people barely speak English This appears to be a universal problem with the Xbox customer service... when you call from Finland you get someone who barely speaks Finnish, and I assume it's similar in pretty much every country. ;D

The 360 is an investment in the current day technology, the PS3 is an investment in the future of technology.
The PS3's inner components are so technologically ahead of its time that Sony won't need to release the PS4 for another 20 years at the minimum. Also, the PS3 basically comes with everything you need right out of the box.
The 360 has to constantly get new models to gain new abilities. The PS3 only gets new models that have more hard drive room.
The biggest Xbox Live Arcade download on the 360 is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The biggest PSN download right now is the full fledge game, WarHawk.
The PS3 has a LOW technical problem rate(less than 1%), the 360 however has a 33% technical problem rate.
On the flip side, EVERY multiplatform game between the PS3 and 360 has been better on the 360. Seriously....it is like the back in the days of the Genesis vs. the NES/SNES! The Genesis always had the better multiplatform versions(sometimes to the extent that the games only had the same name but played completely different, and better, on the Genesis).
Anyways, it also depends on your taste in gaming. If you prefer Western games(fantasy/medieval rpgs, FPS games, etc) then get the 360. If you prefer Eastern games(JRPGs, puzzle games, anime games, hack 'n slashers, any game from Japanese developers) get the PS3. And if you want games before anyone else, get the PS3, as it is region free, meaning you can import the Japanese version of the game several months ahead of the US release(to do this on the 360, you need to have an XBL account set in the Japan region).
Of course, library wise, the 360 is where it is at. Er....just go for the 360 for now, but save up money for a PS3 a few years down the road.

depends on what you're looking for really.
I mean, if you're a huge fan of the PS3 exclusives(Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo) then go for a PS3. And the biggest complaint I've ever heard about PS3's is the price, and that is progressively getting better.
If you can live without the PS3-exclusives, than an 360 might be your best bet. Its cheaper, but has also had a more troubled history reliabilty wise.

Sorta what Duke said there.
And not to cause a ruckus, but what's so wrong about a Wii?

(to do this on the 360, you need to have an XBL account set in the Japan region). Not necessarily, many 360 games are in fact region free or at least work in multiple regions.

None of the I've imported were. I imported both Blue Dragon and Trusty Bell(Eternal Sonata), neither worked on my account. I've yet to pick up the English versions yet, as I had to spend $80 each for the Japanese versions. I'm waiting for them to become cheap as hell.

Microsoft > Sony 360 > PS3 I bet last generation the arrow signs would be reversed, and Xbox < PS2.

I'm looking at Play-Asia's 360 selection at the moment, and games such as Call of Duty 4, Rainbow Six Vegas, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Devil May Cry 4 are all region free. Also, some Japanese version games like Lost Odyssey work on European systems but not US ones for whatever reason.

All the games you listed aside from DMC4 and Lost Odyssey are North American made games, of course they would be region free. Also, lucky.......atleast you get to play the Japanese versions...... America gets boned on that kind of stuff.
