Neither of them can do 3D anymore (i say anymore because Sonic Adventure 1/2 were amazing, and Heroes wasnt bad on the Gamecube)Megaman cant even do 2-d anymore. Play Sonic Advance 1-3 and Rush (yet to try the new one) and tell me there isnt anymore good Sonic games.
Imagine if they did some giant ass 2D Sonic on the Wii or for download on 360 and PS3, the size of Super Paper Mario...THAT would be sweet.
And HMark, Sonic 3/Knuckles (Sega‘s marketing strategy aside) was the best of all of them, and i challenge anyone to prove me wrong.

I still said Sonic 3 was great, just that, at the time, you could almost sense that something was starting to shift. And I'll always contend that Sonic 2 > Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Even if I love both immensely.

Koda, if anything, Capcom needs to be commended for taking a different turn for a series that was at risk of turning stale. RE4 is already a modern classic, anyway. As for the question at hand, Sonic is dead to me. Sega of Japan screwed the pooch royally on the franchise YEARS ago. Hell, you could almost tell in Sonic 3 that, while it was still great, something was amiss. I'll never understand how they were gift-wrapped a buffet of potentially great characters from Sega of America (you had the Freedom Fighters and ultra-evil Robotnik from the SatAM series, and even the goofy ones from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog), and they tossed them ALL out the door in favor of Amy Rose, Big the Cat, and the worst of them all, Shadow. Screw Sega for ruining Sonic. Because the Freedom Fighters(who I think are extremely overrated anyway) and all those other characters where never created by Sega of Japan and Sonic was always developed by Japan. Those characters never had chance in hell of being in a game anyway since they were never created by the official Sonic people.

Even if I love both immensely. All right, I will take that bet. Sonic 3 just had much better gameplay. Much faster, more diverse levels with more shortcuts and paths, more creative bosses, better music (Launch Base stands out most to me), and tails isn't useless anymore. Plus the save system and being able to select a level once ya beat the game (and if ya had it hooked to Sonic and Knuckles, the fact you could pick right up at Mushroom Hill instead of starting new files). The only things I can give Sonic 2 the nod over Sonic 3 in would be Multiplayer, and an easier level select code (Sonic 3's was murder unless you knew the reset trick you needed Sonic 2 for(PM me if ya want to know, as its not exactly foolproof)). I am not saying Sonic 2 was bad, but the prime was Sonic 3 to me. It is easily in the top 3 games I have ever played, if not #1 (id have to decide between Metal Gear Solid and Zelda OOT). To me I didn't think it was going downhill for a second until Heroes, when it was a step back from Adventure 2 (I don't care what anyone says, Adventure 1/2 were AMAZING).

The older RE games will always be the best in my opinion, despite what anyone says. You ain't lying. I love RE4, but I'll take my worn out copies of the first 3 games over it any day. I mean ... they're worn out copies for a reason. Never gets old beating those games.
