With a current gross of $125 million, Fox Searchlight's comedy Juno has become the biggest indie hit since 2002's My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which eventually grossed $241.4 million. Daily Variety also observed today (Tuesday) that it is also the only film this year to remain in the top-10 box office list every weekend since its debut. Moreover, it is the highest-grossing film nominated for a best-film Oscar, taking in more than twice the revenue of its closest rival, the Coen brothers' No Country for Old Men, which has earned $61.3 million. www.imdb.com/news/sb/2008-02-19/

It was a good year for indie films in general. Wasn't There Will Be Blood also indie?

Give me 5 reasons why I should rent Juno and I might just consider it. 1. Who knows you might like it. 2. If you have Netflix, might was well. 3. You might find Ellen Page cute. 4. We regret the things we don't do more than what we do. 5. You will know for sure.

I saw this Juno movie, in the theater just recently. It was pretty good. JK Simmons was funny.

indie films have been doing good in the past couple of years.
hell it's starting to look like that's where we're going to see the only creativity in holywood these days.

i liked the film, even if that goddamn soundtrack did nearly turn me off the whole thing I almost gave up when Juno's best female friend said "Honest to blog." But I'm glad I didn't.

I pose a similar question as brad007: Give me 5 good reasons why the Juno backlash is legitmate and not just people hating on an indie film that's found a massive audience

I pose a similar question as brad007: Give me 5 good reasons why the Juno backlash is legitmate and not just people hating on an indie film that's found a massive audience Not that I agree with this notion, but I've heard some folks say that Juno (the character) is a highly too-fictional teenager. Meaning, people doubt that there's a type of teenage girl that listens to Iggy and the Stooges and watches Suspiria in this day and age. As a result, they think the movie is more pandering to the indy crowd in an attempt to make money, rather than actually be an indy movie, in the sense of culture, rather than the sense that it is an actual independent movie. That's just what I've heard, though.

Well I have yet to meet a woman that listens to Iggy and the Stooges.
Unless, she's older and with issues.
So no. Juno can't ever be real.

That's just what I've heard, though. I know at least a dozen kids like that. Quite a few of my friends are like Juno. So, I guess their theory just shows a lack of information on their part.

I don't care if it is indie or not. I keep holding off seeing it for one reason: This man is NegaKing Midas, everything he touches turns to trash. ...day by day though I keep wanting to just deal with it and watch it. ...but then again, this was exactly how I was convinced to give the most overhyped movie of all time, Superbad, a shot.

Juno=this years Napoleon Dynamite Except Juno was funny. I hate how all my friends are now against it and back when it came out NOBODY, absolutely NOBODY thought it sucked. You'd have as hard a time trying to find someone who hated it as you would now finding someone who still likes it.

Juno=this years Napoleon Dynamite Except Juno was funny. I seen Juno and I thought it was quirky for the sake of being quirky. Quite saccharine.

I seen Juno and I thought it was quirky for the sake of being quirky. See, that's actually what I thought about Napoleon Dynamite. But I thought that ND was playing its characters solely for laughs, without having a point or ever showing them not be the butt of jokes. With Juno, I felt that there was stuff going on beyond the humor. If you want to call that "heart" at the risk of sounding sappy, so be it. But it at least felt like the writer liked his characters, rather than just sort of ridicule them for 90 minutes.
