Congrats to JUNO, the best film of 2007 (in my opinion)!
And I liked and still do like Napoleon Dynamite.

i liked the film, even if that goddamn soundtrack did nearly turn me off the whole thing I've been a huge Kimya Dawson fan for several years now, and I even I was getting to the point of "OK, I get it. Listening to Kimya Dawson makes you cooler than other people. Got it. "

I thought Juno was great. I also thought that the biggest "indie" pic in that many years...or ever for that matter was "passion of the christ"

I saw this Juno movie, in the theater just recently. It was pretty good. JK Simmons was funny. "The next time I see that Bleeker kid, I'm gonna punch him in the wiener." Classic. Every role he plays is that much better to me knowing I first came to know him as the white supremacist Nazi in HBO's "Oz." It's like "Ha! The editor at the newspaper in Spider-Man is the Nazi from 'Oz.'" Anyway. I saw this movie through some... dubious means... but I loved it. It's a refreshing change from some of the crap that has come out lately that my friends make me see (Aliens vs. Predators: Requiem?).

As a general rule, I don't like films that star high schoolers who are somehow wiser and more intelligent than 99% of the human population. Its extremely unrealistic and gives a bizarre depiction of maturity.
Even the "smart" people I knew in high school were hopelessly naive and knew next to nothing about "the real world". A character like Juno is really a late twentysomething disguised as a high schooler.

The reason I can't stand JUNO is because throughout the whole thing, it felt like you were watching an indie flick. The way every character acted, it was if they knew they were acting in an indie flick, and thus laid it on as thick as possible with the quirky behavior.
It was an indie flick for the sake of being an indie flick. I despised it. Biggest load of quirk since GARDEN STATE...or anything starring Zach Braff.

Juno=this years Napoleon Dynamite If that's the case, I won't see it. I found Napoleon Dynamite to be extremely boring. I wanted to see No Country for Old Men, but the local theatre had it for like a week before replacing it with some kind of garbage. They had the Uwe Boll movie longer than that.

to quote Bruce Campbell, "any movie that has Jim Carey in it is not an indy"
but in this case, replace "Jim Carey" with Jenifer Garner

See I had heard all the "it's this year's ND" things and was going to avoid it and then one of my friends dragged me to it.
While I thought it wasn't the funniest film of the year (I give that nod to Knocked Up) I still highly enjoyed it and thought it had a lot of heart.
Plus Juno reminded me of a lot of my female high school friends.

Everyone said Juno is too smart and quirky to be real, but again, it's a movie so it doesn't all need to be real. And I liked ND to throw my hat into that.

I pose a similar question as brad007: Give me 5 good reasons why the Juno backlash is legitmate and not just people hating on an indie film that's found a massive audience Not that I agree with this notion, but I've heard some folks say that Juno (the character) is a highly too-fictional teenager. Meaning, people doubt that there's a type of teenage girl that listens to Iggy and the Stooges and watches Suspiria in this day and age. As a result, they think the movie is more pandering to the indy crowd in an attempt to make money, rather than actually be an indy movie, in the sense of culture, rather than the sense that it is an actual independent movie. That's just what I've heard, though. Holy smurf. So you're saying this movie is about something....FICTIONAL?!?! I quite liked it. I thought the relationship between Juno and the kid's dad was a little forced (did I miss the parts where he gave her reason to love him or something?) but the stuff with Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman's characters totally offset that - their story went someplace I didn't expect, and I quite admired that part of the movie. And Ellen Page was just awesome. Might not deserve the Oscar, but I think she deserves being in that top 5.

Well, I don't really think she did love him. She just thought he was this cool guy to hang out. He sorta fell for her, though.
I'm just tellin' you what some other guy told me. And the main point of my post was this part...
"...they think the movie is more pandering to the indy crowd in an attempt to make money, rather than actually be an indy movie..."

Good for them but I gotta say, I don't believe it's Best Picture worthy. Loved the movie, one of my favorites of '07, but I'd much rather see 'Gone Baby Gone' there. Hell, I'd like to get nominations period.

I have never been so infuriated by a movie in my life, besides maybe AvP.
Horribly written with references replacing actual jokes *cough*FamilyGuy*cough* . Juno's dialogue went something like "blah blah Iggy and the Stooges blah blah slasher movie blah blah Thundercats lol I'm so quirky and awesome and I don't care what ANYBODY thinks about me!" She was so quirky, in fact, that she didn't give a crap about being pregnant for the first half of the movie. Also, as everyone says, people like Juno don't exist. People who act quirky like that and claim to know about crap ahead of their time are usually the same people that go home and cry next to their crazy pills.
