Today is a terrible day for me to be sick. There's this huge ass telethon going on at work, and I was supposed to go in for 12 hours. Over 12. But I stayed home for the morning and told them I'll come in...I am feeling better, but not 100%, and not great to be running around a huge arena. But I must do it, and be back way late tonight... What was the worst day you had to work while feeling really sick?

Well I have ton of deadlines to get work done for and spent today at the doctor's office trying to figure out whether or not I have appendicitis. CT scan results coming later this afternoon.

Well, there were a couple days that probably tie, both times were at Wal*Mart.
First time was shortly after I was hired, maybe a couple months but before my 90 day evaluation. I was seriously sick, nauseous, and dizzy. I was stumbling around from aisle to aisle with a 102-degree fever. It was pretty close to inventory so they were really, really pushing on freight and trying to get as much out there as they could. I was working in Sporting Goods that night (the department manager was a real... well, not a bitch, but let's say that Sporting Goods had more baggage in the morning than the Luggage department) and had a lot of stuff to put up. About 12 pallets of freight with widely-varying piece counts. One pallet was all fishing rods which have to be assembled and tagged before stocking. One pallet was all weights and let me tell you that those are a real bitch to deal with even without a cold. Many times the boxes weigh 75-100lbs and you're dealing with 20+ boxes per pallet and you ALWAYS need the ones on the bottom and rarely need the ones on top... so you have to unstack and restack the pallet. Ever try to carry 100lbs while dizzy, and stock it? It's a pain in the f***ing back AND head. So yeah, that was rough. I had 12 pallets and only got through 9 of them. The night manager told me not to worry about it but the department manager had already pitched a fit to the store manager, and he came to me on the Warpath. I heard him coming because he always stomped when he was mad and he muttered loudly. "PSY!" he shouted, "How can you explain all this unprocessed freight on the floor?" (he meant salesfloor, it was still on the pallets) he came around the aisle I was still plodding in, took one look at me, and said, "Holy s*** you're sick. Why did you even come in?" with all his anger gone. My night manager came over and told him I did 9 pallets even while like that and the store manager looked at the department manager and then walked off. She never did apologize for that. I got so sick after that I was out for a couple more days, but asked if I could work on my scheduled days off to make up the time and they agreed.
The second time I was sick it was bronchitis, in late November, and I was working in Garden Center. I don't know about your Wal*Marts, but in our area we had 3 Garden Center areas:
1) Inside the store proper. 2) A patio/greenhouse combination, not in the store, but accessed from the store. 3) A 'corral' made from 2x4s and cinder blocks where people went for their mulch, flowers, terra cotta pots, stones, etc.
When you work overnight Garden Center you do the freight inside area 1, then the freight inside area 2, then spend the rest of the night outside in area 3. It was cold, I was cold, I had a cold, and one of my first duties of the night was to go through the pumpkin stacks and extricate the ones that'd gone rotten. As you can imagine, that alone was sickening. I threw up about a dozen times that night AND stopped a pair of shoplifters. One of them got tackled into a pool of my vomit and threw up too.

I ruined Christmas by having to be hospitalized with some sort of stomach bug in, uummmm, 98. I was also the only person at work at the time, so my channel had color bars most the day.

During finals week, I had minor surgery on my jaw. What made it worse, I had to walk to school (a fifteen minute walk in the summer while annestesia (sp?) is still in some effect is not good at all.) Plus, I hade three classes on both days, all of which were two hours each. Luckily, I managed to convince my Sociology teacher to let me take the final with the seniors; on that day, I just slept and apparently made bizarre moaning sounds on his couch. The next day, I had to do some presentation in German and all of my answers were, "Well, you can read it for yourself (in English)."

Last year the day before I had shoulder surgery. I was afraid a bad cold would prevent me from going under the knife.
The rest of the week was spent struggling to blow my nose using just my left hand.

Well as I'm a student, not too diar work stories.
My public speaking class. Three grades. Three speeches. Last one, I woke up and could barely speak. Luckily, it got better as the day went on. Still sounded like hell though. I passed though, so no big deal.

Today's a pretty inconvenient day for me. I have the day off, but I'm sick to my stomach and want to go buy some pepto bisthmo or something. The problem is that in order to do that, I have to first take the bus to my job and then go get my check cashed. I just don't know if I can make the bus ride without having to vomit or use the restroom.

Not really sick per se, but when one of my friends got married a week after I crushed my finger at work. I was almost completely doped out of my mind on pain meds and to this day, have pretty much no recollection of it.

I went into hospital the day of No Mercy 2002, with the Lesnar Taker HIAC Match. I asked my mum to tape it for me, but she forgot. Even though her son was in hospital.
And because of that (I was in hospital for hepatitis) I missed a Papa Roach concert I was supposed to go to.

She was probably more upset about your health than your TV watching habits....though that match kicked eleventy shades of ass.

I took my Junior High final tests in Maths and English with 100ish degrees fever.
I spent most of Christmas 2001 throwing up.
Getting a cold during a school trip to Spain (in May...) wasn't nice. I spent the last two days sleeping on the bus while the others were having fun.

I've had to call in on Mondays in the past, knowing that no one would be able to take my place.
I never felt bad either. When you don't feel good, why bend over backwards for your employer? f*** that.

I got sick as a dog before and at my friend's wedding. I knew it was coming on before another friend picked me up to drive down to his place and I was gonna not go, but I knew he'd be pissed so I went. Needless to say, Sheetz's nachos for dinner along with plenty of alcohol and then Denny's for breakfast didn't help. During the ride from Denny's to the church, I felt like I was going to die. It was only a 15 minute drive, apparently, but we got lost and it ended up taking over half an hour. I was blacking out from the pain at that point and trying to keep my bowels under control. (I got a weird body where my stomach feels pretty much nothing, but when something does hit me, it hits my bowels and it hurts like hell.)
By the time we got to the church, I missed out on almost all the pre-stuff as I was stuck in the bathroom for close to an hour... moaning, groaning and screaming in agony. My friend told me afterwards some dude from the bride's side asked if I took a girl in there with me.
Luckily though, I managed to get through the worst of it and then got through the wedding as one of the ushers, along with my friend's dad. At that point, I was too drained to deal with any of the awkwardness... as my friend's parents were divorced, so I accompanied his mother to her seat and sat with her.
At the after wedding hubub, I just drank 7-Up and made sculptures by melting plastic silverware together with the candles at the table.

I had a BAD cold for the Math B exam. A fever and tissues were running out too fast. I studied for WEEKS and only took College Algebra so I can this stupid test and get an Advanced Regents Diploma... ...Only to be screwed out of 3 points (I got a 62, needed a 65 ). Life isn't fair, but who said it would be.
