Come on, this was a classic episode & a great trip down 90's flashback lane for me.
And it's good to see I am not the only one who got the Margerine/Glycirine link...as my wife said it was STP's vaseline.
*doh*

See, depending on how I watch the Simpsons I either like this episode or hate it.
There are two ways that I approach watching the Simpsons: that as a fan from when it started, and that as a fan that recognizes that it's basically a different show than what it was way back then.
To me, the show has two distinct periods: the 90s, and the 00's. Fans from the 90's tend not to like shows from the 00's and fans from the 00's usually don't realise just how good the 90's shows are in comparison (my little brother, for instance, was downright SHOCKED when he got the DVD for season three for his birthday, as it's almost a totally different show).
You have to understand that for many of us we've been watching this show for the majority of our lives, so of course the new episodes aren't going to measure up to the 'good old days.' With that mindset, I appreciated the 'reboot' and it was a great nostalgilistic episode.
Then again, the last time I checked, Sadgasm didn't play Hullabalooza where this man known as Homer Simpson was rocking out with Sonic Youth, No Doubt, and the Smashing Pumpkins while getting shot with a canon.

Sadgasum was too big for Hullabalooza I guess. I wonder what happened to Homers mansion, Gold Records and money.

Meh, the episode simply wasn't funny to me. Aside from Weird Al, I got little enjoyment out of it. I didn't like how they were all over the chronological map, as the episode took place in "The 90s" so things happened in a time hodge-podge.
Oh, and the Back to the Future "You know that new sound you been lookin' for? Listen to THIS!" joke has gotten old. I've already seen it twice on Family Guy...not that I wanna open up that Simpsons/FG can of worms again.

Not to mention that Nirvanas first album came out in 1989 which kind of defeats the whole joke/timeline.

And usually Family Guy copied off The Simpsons. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MkbMBFODxcAnyway, after hearing about the episode I decided to check it out, and needless to say, that episode was stupid, however, I did enjoy the 90s references, it really took me back.

I can't watch videos (I have dial-up). Ya wanna give me a rundown/transcript of the video? And yes, I agree that this ep. was stupid.

And kudos for Weird Al doing "Brain Freeze".

I'm not mad at any "continuity changes" I mean it's the Simpsons. We're dealing with an entire town that has stayed the same age for almost 20 years. Continuity is always shifting in this show, all be it not in such a dramatic fashion.

Why would people look for continuity in a show where the characters havent aged in 21 years?

Doesn't the fact that American Dad and Family Guy had awesome repeats soothe the pain of this episode a little bit?

I SAID MAJORITY GOSH DARNIT!!!! And I raise you an Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Yeah, ATHF REALLY adheres to continuity. How many times has Carl been killed now? I like the show too, I'm just saying.

ATHF has NO continuity, and I love it for it. The only continuity it has is how the character behave towards one another.

Have you ever known the majority of cartoons to follow this dreaded thing known as continuity? Futurama Watch Benders Big Score. Also Fox was advertising last nights episode as a different time line or some shit, so I guess thats the writers excuse?
