I remember hearing if you played 50 seasons of the second Smackdown game, you'd unlock the Buried Alive match. Oh, and the best urban legend for video games: Duke Nukem Forever will be coming out. Jed f'n Shaffer ~I grew to hate Tomb Raider when I worked at Software Etc, just cause of the nerds who perpetuated the "Nude Raider" code legend. Speaking of stupid Smackdown rumors, I can't even begin to tell you how many idiots on Gamefaqs fell for a rumor for SD 2006 that if you won GM of the Year, you could draft Jake Roberts. It was a bunch of crap, Jake could only be unlocked with an Action Replay or PSP. My friend actually did manage to do it on the PS2, but he had a pirated and likely unfinished copy of the game.

But if there is such a thing as karma...

Hmm... to DNF's credit, the trailer released in December 2007 was much more entertaining and much closer to an actual video game than Daikatana.

Oh! I almost forgot how several people claimed that Final Fantasy 8 was originally planned to have 8 CDs.

Secret Cow quest in Diablo. They actually had to add it to the expansion and sequel just because people wouldn't shut up about it.

I remember this one from when I was just a pup. On the original street fighter 2 arcade you were supposed to be able to get Chug Li to flash you somehow.
Another good one I remember is from WCW NWO Revenge. It was if you beat every championship challenge on the hardest difficulty, and got the maximum amount of points on all of them you could unlock Ric Flair.
There was also one about being able to make Rude, and Dusty playable characters.

Here's one from waaaay back when. And it was probably just something among my area. Nintendo was taking video game solicitations from kids. You write the story, give puzzle lay outs and such. My friend swore up and down that he had solicited a big foot (monster truck) game that would eventually come out. I looked for that game for a couple of years at stores to no avail.

I haven't played FFVII for years now... but the summer of 98 (or was it 97? I don't remember for sure), I played the hell out of it... and I swear I remember bringing Aeris back at some point. I never really talked about the game with anyone, just had the big ass strategy guide and I might have looked up some "cheats" online or something, but.... I know I had heard of that. Hmmm... memory can be a tricky thing though too.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the old rumor that you could shoot the dog in Duck Hunt. You can look up "Vs. Duck Hunt" Wow, I didn't know about that. However, from what I'm seeing, that appears to be only on a specific arcade version, whereas I meant NES. I guess I should have clarified (though I had no idea another version existed.)

Well one of my all time favorites would have to be the "Hidden Palace Zone" and 3 other zones (Wood Zone, Dust Hill Zone, and Genocide City Zone) that never got finished before the launch of Sonic 2. I know they had Hidden Palace zone all but wrapped up in the Sonic 2 game, they even showed screen shots of the stage on commercials before the launch date. But due to technical difficulties trying to complete the stage and the short time they had left, they were only able to get so much done. A game designer by the name of Craig Stitt on the SonicTeam was giving the excuse that "the reason that Hidden Palace got cut from the game, just before release was that they had run out of room." and "because the gameplay was never completed, it was supposed to be a *secret* level, but I guess they kept putting it off till it was too late." Same goes for Wood Zone which was cut in the early stages of design due to Sega not having enough time to finish the stage. Some say that Hidden Palace zone was a level suppose to be a "Tails only stage" after he crashes the plane right before the start of Wing Forest zone.
Edit: Also forgot to mention that the background song for the Hidden Palace Zone is #10 on the options menu in Sonic 2. The stage can be reach with a game genie but you better have Debug mode if you want to get past or not where your going.
