Thought I'd start a thread for all the video game urban legends you may have heard be they true or not, I'll start things off
Game: Perfect Dark System: N64
Urban Legend: When Perfect Dark was being developed Rare began advertising quite a nifty little multi-player gimmick. The idea was that using the newly released Game Boy Camera, players could photograph their face and then transfer the image into the game and paste it over the character they're playing as. This seemed a good idea but Rare took it out for "sensitivity issues". Thinking that giving people the idea to actually shoot the crap out of video game effiges of themselves and their friends would cause a whole lot of bad puplicity.
However the story doing the rounds at my school at the time was a little different. Apparantly developers and game testers had been using the photo pasting tool, but not to put their faces in the game.
Instead they had been taking photos of their genitals and pasting them over the heads of the games characters creating walking talking d---kheads. I don't know if this rumor is true but part of me wishes it is.

The one I always remember and despair at is people in my school raving about trying to find the infamous "get Lara nude" cheats on Tomb Raider.

I vaguely remember kids saying Mortal Kombat had secret "sex finishers" you could perform on the female characters. Like Sub Zero skullf***ing Sonia to death or something.

I forget how these rumors got started, but it seems to have only been at my elementary school
1 - In the first TMNT game for NES, Dracula, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein and The Mummy are all hidden bosses in the warehouse levels.
2 - Kano can turn into some kind of monster for a hidden fatality in the first Mortal Kombat
Speaking of MK, I remember reading endless fake "Get Sonya and Kano playable in MK2" cheats, as well as being able to perform fatalities on Shao Khan

I remmber hearing a rummor for street fighter 3 where you had to win all fights perferfect, get a time over on your final boss and then you'd fight Sheng-Long.

Getting the Triforce in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Supposedly, at one point in the game you'd be able to access a place called "Temple of Light" or whatever the rumormongers would call it, and obtain the Triforce for yourself. This, of course, was total bunk and there is no way of getting the Triforce in Ocarina of Time as hackers have found out a long time ago.
However, you CAN battle an Arwing fighter (from Starfox) in Ocarina of Time if you use a Gameshark. It is an actual enemy hidden in the game's code, has battle and movement AI and shoots laser beams. That is a lot more interesting than some boring golden triangles, don't you think?

No surprise I never managed to do this, I love Street Fighter but man do I suck at fighting games As for an Urban Legend, the old you can resurrect Aeris in FFVII one

LOL I didn't know they did it again for SF3, I just wanted to make someone rush off and try to beat Super SF2 on hardest without getting hit. ;D

I remember SD!2 had one. Beat every superstar on the roster or something, and you'd get the Buried Alive match.
Lets just say I was pisssed when I did that, and got nothing in return.

There's supposedly some arcade game that existed in the early 1980s and may have been geographically isolated in and around Oregon that caused players to have horrible nightmares, memory loss and an almost adverse reaction to going anywhere near the arcade where the unit was held. Supposedly some Men In Black tended to the game and periodically collected the coins along with some data (printouts or otherwise) from the device. The game's name is something like Polybias and apparently there's a long and elaborate story about how rare it is and those with ROMs of it lose it or drop out of communities.
Probably it was just a real crappy game with early vector graphics that just screwed with everyone's vision, but it is quite obvious that the government has been looking to give everyone nightmares and erase their memory anyway they possibly can for.........some reason.
