If they really want to show the risks of smoking, then they should just show blackened lungs and other graphic effects of smoking (like those brief shots of it in that futuristic prison commercial). Of course, then we'd have protestors complaining about how "Scary" the images are.

Can I get an inconsistency corrected here? Many of these commercials contain the phrase (or something similar) "Tobacco/Smoking killed x people in 2006." The pot lobby usually grabs a hold of these phrases to say, "See, not one documented case of someone dying from pot. Sure people have died while high, but not from actually smoking it." Now, it would seem to me, that the only way for someone to literally die from cigarettes would be if they were to literally inhale the cigarette. The death comes from cancer and emphysema. Why isn't the same logic applied to both products? I'll take a stab at answering this myself. Products are worse when guys wearing suits make money off of them. Because if you can link the cancer and emphysema to the cigarettes but you can't do the same to pot, that is why you can "die" from cigarettes. Or are we just supposed to believe that my grandmother spontaneously generated lung cancer from something NOT related to 60+ years of smoking? Hmmm?

So.... Tobacco's working everyone? Apparently so, since sooo many people light up every time they see a Truth Ad to stick it to "the man" and yet not realizing they're continuing to fund these increasingly batcrap insane ad campagins. Irony is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Irony is a wonderful, wonderful thing. I give it up. Very clever. That is funny. Smokers hate the very ads they fund and kids that buy in to TT are still tools of the tobacco industry. If The Truth accepts donations that would just about ice the cake as it wouldn't so much be their money as it would just be money cig folk didn't have to spend on their lie.

All I needed was to look at a guy who could barely talk and with a hole sticking out his neck. That put me off smoking for life.

I wonder why the old farmers and such that smoked non filtered cigs for like 90 years of their life and finally died of natural causes at like 110 years old are never talked about? Seriously I live in the mid-west farm area and this is common as all hell. If smoking means you will get cancer down the road then why doesn't every single person that has smoked get it? Isn't that part of a scientific process is being able to duplicate a result over and over in a controlled enviroment not just well grandma got cancer, grandpa didn't didn't but grandma lived with grandpa who smoked ZOMG IT IS TEH CIGS THAT DID IT!!! Ok I'm rambling now so Ill just stop
by the way used to smoke but quit due to price.

Ok I'm rambling now so Ill just stop by the way used to smoke but quit due to price. Exactly. Too many other environmental and genetic factors come into play to pin it on just one cause. For example judging by those mesothelioma lawyers ads if someone worked in places like steel mills, shipyards, or the automotive industry or lived with someone who does they run the risk of getting it. If someone in their family had or has cancer there is a good chance they could get it too. If you lived in a house before asbestos was outlawed (Anytime before the mid 1980s) you could get it.

Tobacco is a big problem in this country.
I propose a solution. It's time tested and is so effective they won't back off from it in other applications.
What we do is delcare a "war" against tobacco. Hear me out here. We can pass a federal law that places tobacco under the Schedule 1 drug status (an addictive substance that has no medicinal value). That would render tobacco completely illegal in the United States.
Then we can let each state figure out how they want to deal with the users and suppliers. Maybe the users could get a fine in some states or a few weeks or even a few months in jail if they possess a small amount of tobacco, say a couple packs worth (around 40 grams). Then we can punish people with possession of a cartons worth (especially the the tobacco is indivually packaged into amoutns that would indicate the possesser intends to sell the tobacco) to af ew years in prison and give them a felony record. We can also do the same to those who growa few tobacco plants, be it for their own personal supply or for sale.
For the large scale tobacco sellers or cultivators, the DEA can go after them and raid their houses and shoot their family dog and do whatever it is the DEA does. We can then send these people to mandatory minimum sentences in federal prisons.
This time tested strategy has been in use for almost 40 years. It has done a great job in reducing the demand and supply for other illicit drugs. In fact, people smoking pot or snorting coke or using opiates is practically unheard of in this country. It's mostly unheard of because finding the stuff is impossible, due to the government's efficient methods in reducing supply.
So who's with me folks? This is for the children and all. FOR THE CHILDREN!
