blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/06/recording-indus.html"It's a form of piracy, if you will, but not in the classic sense as we think of it," said Martin Machowsky, a musicFirst spokesman. "Today we gifted them a can of herring, about their argument that they provide promotional value. We think that's a red herring. Nobody listens to the radio for the commercials." The coalition includes the Recording Industry Association of America, Society of Singers, Rhythm & Blues Foundation, Recording Academy and others. The argument boils down to this: Radio is making billions off the backs of recording artists and their labels; and the recording artists gain invaluable exposure because they're on the radio, so royalties should not have to be paid.

I would laugh if the RIAA had all music radio stations shut down, then they started HAVING to pay for all their advertisement themselves and end up out of bussiness because of that.

That's a sign that they're way waaaaay outta touch.
"No one listens to radio for commercials".. well no shit, but do you think you're building an audience without listeners?

Once radio is taken down, that leaves only one group left...people who sing in the shower.

You know, I thought a couple years ago "Is it piracy when I record music off the radio?" was pretty extreme.
But they found a way to go one step further.....
I'm really starting to think there's a very big problem in America.

Guitar Hero will take a hit. You'll still have the controller, and have to hit the right colored buttons, but no music will come out. Maybe they'll revamp with to I don't know barnyard sounds or something.
Some kind of Guitar Hero/Speak n Spell.
Guitar and Spell.. coming this Christmas

Is that the royalities issue? Let's all remember, The guy who set the music get royalities, the guy who wrote the lyrics gets royalities. The performer who sang the song does not, and that's why they want radio to pay more. Because the Songwritters aren't going to give up their share, so it's gotta be the radio stations. This is a just debate. It's over money, not to terminate Music Radio.

Yeah, it'll be like the Madballs cartoon. Music will be banned everywhere by the evil overlord, but one band will play on and we'll have an underground resistance to protect them and go to all their shows.

Man, those were the days......They became millionaires getting 75 cents an album royalities. Now, the musicians cry poverty and they are getting a few bucks royalities.
