I always thought radio stations had to pay like a royality fee to play songs on the radio?
Maybe it's just a norwegian thing?!

I'm waiting for the RIAA to come out and say listening to music in any form is considered piracy. I'm sorry but the mainstream music industry ceased to be relevant to me when I hit my age or reason around twelve years old.

Is he for real?
I always thought radio (and later TV) were the most valuable promotional tool the record industry had...
Who'll step into a records store to grab "the last single I've heard on the radio read about on a newspaper"?

Seriously, radio is like, one of the biggest methods for getting a song into the public mind. I'd be willing to bet that radio makes a HUGE impact on record sales. Going after radio is stupid.

In England there's a law that means shops have to have a license to play music, pubs and clubs also need one to have live acts. Here's an extract from an article. "A pub landlady was told she required a variation in her licence to allow regular gatherings of a group of elderly men who sang folk songs together." news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6268406.stm

We have that here. You need permits for live music and usually insurance. That said, we don't have to pay the RIAA unless you play pre-recorded music that they have jurisdiction over.

So..........What the f*** ? What's next? Is the RIAA going to come after you if you buy a CD and let a friend borrow it?

They will probably target music being played during parties next. And they will send this guy: "Playing 'Rock The Casbah' is violation of the Piracy Act please reduce the volume to a audible level so that it can not be heard beyond the lounge room. Or feel free to play a song in the public domain like Row Row Your Boat".

Way back in the early days of radio, the record companies used to pay radio DJs ungodly amounts of money in order to get records played. Now they want the radio stations to pay the record companies ungodly amounts for money to play their records. Its all come full circle in the most craptacular way possible.
