It would be like Edge climbing down the latter to face punk. Instead of having 2 main event wrestlers steal the show and main event at WM. Edge/Orton vs punk would be like a letdown. Even though I know Edge can carry Punk to a great match. But the promos before the match. Edge owns him. Like HHH did Cena. LOL@Edge carrying Punk LOL@Edge owning Punk on the mic Punk can hang with anyone in WWE, especially Edge, so carrying won't be necessary. Same goes for mic work. Title vs title, Edge vs Punk. That would be a show stealing match. How many great matches has Edge carried someone (Cena, Batistia, Flair). Every promo he has gets his point across and draws in the fans. How about Punk? Good not great matches with him and Morrison. Has Punk ever had a meaningful promo or even a good promo? Don't bring up the ROH crap. Thats like comparing a great running back in college with his stats an trying to say he is still a great running back in the NFL for 2 years even though not putting up the same numbers and is somewhat of a bust. It might not be fair. But what he did in ROH has nothing to do with what he has done or not done in the WWE. He is not in the top ten in crowd reactions. Plus, What would be in it for Edge or Orton. The ECW title? Get real.

Countless good matches and several great matches with Burke, Morrison, and tho it was short, Stevie Richards.
great promos when he turned heel, great promo with vince, hasnt really had much time to talk, he will be 100x better when he turns heel, remember how corny edge was when he was a face?
hes a top 10 face in terms of crowd reaction, he gets a cm punk chant in just about every match, how many others can say that?

No doubt Hardy gets bigger pops than anyone. If Punk was as popular as some think he is ECW ratings wouldn't be where they are. Very low. Doesn't matter who else is on the show if you want to see punk people will watch the show.

The ECW title? Get real. I agree. I criticize Punk a little, but it's usually just to counteract all the Punk circlejerking. I know the guy is good, but the IWC Golden Boy thing gets old in my opinion. ROH and WWE are totally different beasts. ROH caters to smarks, WWE provides good wrestling but a lot of it has to do with having a character and appealing to a wider fanbase. Punk can succeed in WWE in time, but he shouldn't be pushed to the moon just because he did really well in a promotion that caters to a small part of the wrestling audience. At this point, going just by what has happened in WWE, Edge has been able to establish an effective heel character and has had several memorable feuds and storylines. CM Punk has gotten a decent reaction, but he's mainly been main eventing on a show that is glorified Heat.

I, too, have yet to see what is so spectacular about CM Punk. Yes, I've seen ROH and his "amazing" mic skills and wrestling ability. In no way, shape or form is it better or more spectacular, than anything, say, Owen Hart had done. He's lucky to be where he is, because its 2007/2008.
In the Golden Era (80s upto 1992), CM Punk would have been a glorified jobber, like Battle Kat. In the Attitude Era/Monday Night Wars - he'd probably be a solid mid-card cruiserweight in WCW. Only in today's WWE can he be the third tier World champion, on a brand that has been pushed half-heartedly by the company.

All I'm going to throw into this debate is really... bringing the ratings into this isn't fair. Outside of Punk, what is there on ECW that would make you go out of your way to tune in? (And even as a big CM Punk mark... I wouldn't go out of my way to watch ECW)

'What happened to Undertaker?' 'No idea' *shows Undertaker falling through a dimentional portal* 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' McMahon: Dammit, Snitsky, I told you to shave those sideburns! Snitsky: It wasn't my fault! Batista is busy saving everything inside a burning womans house....too bad...

I watch an entire Impact to see Sting. I watch Smackdown to see Edge. Everything between might no be great but not terrible at all. Bottom is if Punk's fan can't watch an 1 hour show( In which alot of people say thats a good thing about ECW. Quickpace mathes and doesn't drag out). And yet, Punks "fans" can't sit through the hour show to see him. Which = decreased ratings and maybe time to get a real champ in who can add some spice to the show.

Punk hasn't been held back. He has been given this opportunity and its not going to well. So if your the heavyweight champ of your show and does bad ratings and the crowd is asleep......Alot of that goes to the champ. There is not too many people looking forward to Punk matches every week. Or wondering who he will face. So comparing him as a great college RB and not doing so well in the big leagues is legit.

Since you like the football analogies so much, here's one for ya. I'd actually compare Punk to this year's New England Patriots and the rest of the ECW roster to this year's Miami Dolphins. Everyone and their dead grandmother knew the Pats were gonna kill the Dolphins when they played each other, so I doubt casual fans were interested in the game. I think most people feel that Punk has been booked to be far better than anyone on the ECW roster that no one actually thinks anyone's he's matched up against has a chance, thus the casual fans don't watch.

IMO I don't think the casual fan cares. People are not into punk like some people would like for everyone to believe.

He talked backstage with Vince. He had an in ring interview ( then someone came out and to interup, I believe it might have been Burke) I was waiting for Punk to rip into him. But didn't. Lets not forget the in ring promo with Chavo when Chavo asked for a title match. Going back and forth. Nothing awesome to it.
