Im telling you...I have a strong feeling it will be smarky for two big matches in particular... Edge will get cheered and Mysterio will get booed and JBL will get the cheers over Jericho I also suspect a very positive response for Santino Umm, pardon my ignorance, but why would the MSG crowd cheer JBL over Jericho? For one thing, Jericho was born in New York State. I'm with you. Why in the hell would a crowd, in NYC of all places, boo Chris Jericho and cheer JBL? Jericho's ten times better in the ring than Bradshaw, and I thought that was all that mattered to the ultra-smart geeks. For that matter, why would "Smarks" boo Misterio and cheer Edge? If they both retired today, Edge would be seen as a guy who, for a couple years, had a pretty good run as WWE's top heel, while Rey would be remembered for having contributed heavily to changing the in-ring style of U.S. wrestling. Again, I thought with smarks being as educated and knowledgeable as they claim to be would be all over stuff like that.

Umm, pardon my ignorance, but why would the MSG crowd cheer JBL over Jericho? For one thing, Jericho was born in New York State. Because the Jericho return hasn't exactly been great and he is losing momentum. He is even starting to get booed by "non smark crowds". Plus he is being given the same John Cena type of humor in his promos. Plus JBL is very pro New York in every one of his promos. Anyone who thinks Jericho has sucked in his return must have missed his promo last week, as well as his match at Armageddon with Randy Orton.

A "smark" always gives credit where it is due. If the matches are good to great, we'll get loud. If the matches are horrible, we'll get loud as well. Orton is not hated, nor are Jeff or Rey. But Edge is definitely the more loved one here. Orton/Jeff probably shifts toward Jeff, since he did a lot of sick shit here.
If Batista wins the rumble, get ready to hear it.

More like Jericho's return was severely overrated by the IWC and now it's blown up in their faces. This is no fault of Jericho's but he'll suffer from the backlash against it I suppose.

Smarks shouldn't be allowed near to the arenas IMO. If all you're gonna do is boo for the wrong reasons, and trying to get yourself over in the process, and write a rabid review of the show giving every match a 1/2* rating because WWE sucks, well... maybe it's time to spend your money on something else. Why attending a Metallica gig if you think Cliff was better, the new albums suck, James' haircut is hideous and the band doesn't look or sound like 20 years ago? Possibly the hope that their feedback will be appreciated and may in some way make someone do something to appeal towards them? I think we can use the evidence of Val Venis getting 50% of a vote for something on WWE.com and being squashed by Khali the week after as a sign that the WWE does not listen to screwballs.

This is one of the things that I love about "smart" wrestling. They are the biggest marks in the world. Why did they have so much anticipation for Jericho's return? Because WWE got them into the return with the silent build-up for it. I have always been a big Jericho fan, but let's be honest, at the time of his leaving, everything about him, save for his ring work, had gotten pretty stale. Did the smarks really think he had been home practicing new material? Probably not, because they don't like anything new anyway. I got it. They thought he had reunited with Ralphus and was going to show the world what a real man looks like in an evening gown. Jericho's return has been good. He has a new finisher, has looked good in the ring and cut one of the best promos of his career last week. If smarks are so disappointed in his return, they should probably reevaluate what it is they look for in a pro wrestling show.

New York was never a smark crowd, but more of a smart crowd.
For smarks, go to Philly. Having attended multiple shows, in each city, Philly "fans" are just bitter whereas New York fans atleast enjoy themselves.

Why don't smarks boo the heels they like? Cheering them just causes them to be de-pushed or turned face. If everybody cheered the faces they liked, booed their favourite heels and didn’t react at all to the people they hated things would work so much better than just deliberately going against the grain. That's what I think to. Don't break kayfabe peeps! Don't let the villians win, what are you, EVIL!?

whereas New York fans atleast enjoy themselves. I thought that was what a smark was... Wasn't it supposed to be: Smart fan: elitist wrestling nerd who can't enjoy anything that's not what they want Mark fan: zealous fan of wrestling as they see it and accepts everything as they see it Smark: a wrestling fan who knows about the inside information about the business but can still enjoy themselves as if they were a mark.

I don't think there is too much to be smarky about at this PPV. Jeff Hardy will most definitely be cheered over Orton, Mysterio should be cheered over Edge, Jericho will be cheered over JBL, and Flair will get huge face pops.

I'm hoping for a mark crowd.
Smark crowds are annoying, because it's just a reminder of the know-it-all "smart" fans on the Internet.
Except the ECW crowds. They are at least funny when they are being jackasses.

I will add one more thing: The Giants are making New York crowds explosive at every event lately.

When the WWE ran Madison Square Garden last year, I wrote a scathing review of how un-smark like the crowd was. Once known for their defiance and moxie, New York City WWE fans have devolved into a mark-like crowd no different than the ones you see in Greensboro or Ft. Worth. With the Royal Rumble being held on Sunday, how smarky (if at all) do you see the crowd getting? Smart (no pun intended) money says the crowd breaks about 90/10 in favor of the marks. Wha I don't get you, you were mad at them for liking the show?

Not really, I mean the chants like "You Sold Out" to Lesnar at WM20 and just basically riding him the whole match with Goldberg sounded more smarky than anything.

How can the WWE tell if you're a smark? Do they have some smark detector to not let them in? Maybe they should invent one. Well, the smark-detector could be useful, but I think taking a look to the signs some fans bring to the show is a good way to make an educated guess... I just think the smart fan himself should avoid wasting his money and his time on a show he won't enjoy. Unless being "anti-whatever" is a way to enjoy the show...

I always love how polarizing the whole "smark/mark" thing is, when there's a tonof middle ground. I'll be the first to admit, I've got to shows ans smarked it up pretty big (Souled Out 2000), but it's not that I "hate wrestling". It's the fact that, if a guy's working heel, but putting on the better show, he will get my reaction, whereas just because I'm supposed to pop for the face, if they give me no reason, then I won't. I'll admit, I've seen guys at shows just going out of their way to be dicks, but taht cuts both ways. I've seen rabid marks throw out threats taht would make warriorthug blush to anyone who doesn't tow the kayfabe line. To me, that's just as bad as being overly smarky.
