I always love how polarizing the whole "smark/mark" thing is, when there's a tonof middle ground. I'll be the first to admit, I've got to shows ans smarked it up pretty big (Souled Out 2000), but it's not that I "hate wrestling". It's the fact that, if a guy's working heel, but putting on the better show, he will get my reaction, whereas just because I'm supposed to pop for the face, if they give me no reason, then I won't. I'll admit, I've seen guys at shows just going out of their way to be dicks, but taht cuts both ways. I've seen rabid marks throw out threats taht would make warriorthug blush to anyone who doesn't tow the kayfabe line. To me, that's just as bad as being overly smarky. I don't as I think they're just getting caught up in the show, granted it's probably not the wisest thing to do, but getting marks to go nuts and boo and lose their minds is a lot better than trying to cater to smarks.

If a heel is getting huge negative reactions, including over-the-top insults or even death threats/wishes, it means he's doing his job very very well.
I'm not saying every fan is supposed to shout obscenities to the heels, but if that happens, it's a sign the angle/match is working and the crowd gets drawn into the story being told.
Appreciation for a heel is shown booing him out of the building. Rabidly if the "hate" is legit, "politely" if it's just about enjoying the show.
Cheering for a heel defies the whole point of him being a heel.
Before and after the show, or at home in front of the TV, it's fair cheering for whoever you feel like, but on a live event, the whole face/heel dynamic should be kept as alive as possible.

Just for the record, JBL should logically get cheered much more than Jericho at the Royal Rumble. His whole gimmick is being a Texan who moved to New York and loves it so much. He's always calling it "his" city.
Also, why is it that people you people love "smark" crowds? They're just a bunch of ignorant asses who try to get themselves over at the expense of the matches and the hard work of the performers. I never understood the fascination with them either. "Ooh, they're not cheering anything the establishment tells them to, even the good stuff. What a bunch of bad asses!"
I hope for a good, hot crowd. They always add to the energy of the matches.

I do agree that they are pretty much trying to get themselves over, but I like a raucous crowd over some crowd that just sits on their hands for 2 hours and makes no noise.

I plan on cheering for MVP, Flair, Mark Henry (theme only), CM Punk, Edge, Hardy (doing a sick bump), Y2J (theme only), Taker, HBK and The Great Khali's entrance theme

If a wrestler sucks but his theme music entertains me (Khali, Henry, Coach) I will mark for the music and then be indifferent to the wrestler

I'll make a seperate thread for my whole experience, but I was watching the wrestlers enter the Garden today and Edge was cheered big time by onlookers. There's something to keep in mind.

I like smark crowds better than mark crowds...sue me. At least you can actually hear smark crowds and get an atmosphere from them.
Bring on the smarks!

Well, the Garden was smarky but the smarks blew it when they popped for Cena's return with the marks last night. Sure, they tried to recover and boo him, but the damage was already done. Toronto, sleep easy. Your Smark Crown is going nowhere.

They popped for Kennedy and Santino. You can't tell me that was a markish crowd.
They popped for Cena because it was a giant surprise. I think they recovered appropriately.

Toronto, sleep easy. Your Smark Crown is going nowhere. Actually they did cheer but it was more of a "Holy crap he's actually here!11" pop. Once the crowd settled down, it was business as usual with Cena and the typical chants/cheers. I've never heard Toronto chant "You can't wrestle" at anyone or even a favorite of mine "Change the channel" which was even more smarkier than the previous chant. Toronto is smarky, but there are more cities in the U.S that are smarkier than that city.

Smarks shouldn't be allowed near to the arenas IMO. If all you're gonna do is boo for the wrong reasons, and trying to get yourself over in the process, and write a rabid review of the show giving every match a 1/2* rating because WWE sucks, well... maybe it's time to spend your money on something else. Why attending a Metallica gig if you think Cliff was better, the new albums suck, James' haircut is hideous and the band doesn't look or sound like 20 years ago? To get smashed, and watch fist fights?

NYC and Philly don't come off as Smarky as they used to, because the Smarks have just stopped going to the WWE shows by and large, and we're left with mostly Marks from nearby areas who still go to the shows.
