To an extent, I'd like to see them come back. But do I want Raw with superstar vs. jobber matches except for the main event again? Not at all.
For a debuting superstar to get somewhat established, they could be useful. But I enjoy competitive matches and even before the Monday Night Wars I found the jobber squashes to be tiring.

My mom and I were watching Raw a few years ago, and she asked me if they still have those matches where "one wrestler would go up against some nobody, but you knew the main wrestler was gonna win."
I can't remember her wording exactly, but she was asking about squash matches. I guess they add to the whole charm of professional wrestling on TV or something. There might be something more to it all other than just pissing off the IWC... ;D

Have I stepped into a time warp or something? It seems just about every week on Smackdown and ECW these days there's a complete squash match with jobbers you've never heard of. That was what I used to watch back in 1991 when Sky One would show Wrestling Challenge and Superstars back-to-back on Saturday lunchtimes. I thought we'd seen the last of it. Are the rosters really that weak? no the rosters arent that weak, but making the roster regulars job out in total squash matches would certainly make them weak and i dont see how you could think that would be a good thing? if you're against squash matches altogether then that is understandable but if theres going to be total squashes (and handicap squashes) id prefer it to be against some no name jobber instead of ruining a regular guys push

PPV matches are generally longer, and are blowoff matches to feuds. PPV matches are "special" enough.
I sure as hell don't want TV to be intentionally boring just to make PPV more "special".
I watch wrestling for the WRESTLING. If the wrestling sucks, then I won't watch. Simple as that.

It's a good idea, for just Kayfaybe reasons alone. These guys are wrestlers, it should be shown that they wrestle to get paid and increase their ranking. As it stands now, wrestlers just seem to show up because they had a feud with someone and would have stayed at home if they didn't have to beat someone up for taking their delicious sandwich.

f***, I hate squash matches. They are so one sided and are totally boring. I'd rather see back and forth wrestling with feuds between superstars on TV. That's what I like about WWE. Think I give a damn about a monster heel squashing a 150 pound man using 3 moves in about 1.5 minutes every week for half a year? If they do too many squash matches then I won't watch the damn show anymore and I don't watch it then I won't know anything about their PPV and won't buy it.

I don't think it has anything to do with the rosters being week, and I don't think it went away and is just coming back now. Velocity and heat were the equivelent of wrestling challenge, and there has always been a show where the talent squashed jobbers, it's just that oit wasn't seen as much on heat or velecoty sinse they went strictly on-line.
I believe that you do need to have shows (mabe Raw and Smakdown) where you have matches that feature talent suqshing jobbers, it will make the superstar matches against each other mean something.

If you ask me, half of the new generation of Superstars look like they should be jobbers.

It can never be like it was, but it's nice to see the return of the nobody to wrestling. In the old days, it would be about all you'd get on free tv and that made you geek for the PPV because you're like "boy, what if he wrestled somebody good?" I especially love it when they crop the jobber's ring entrance off during the commercial break and he's just standing there waiting for his somebody opponent. The blander the look and tights, the better. The gear has to have some detail though, so you can teel whoever made it (them) sort of cared for a minute.

Because I'd like the guy on the other side of the ring to at least pose some threat and have some chance of winning. It takes valuable TV time away from either having another compettive match or let an already booked one go a little longer (especially on ECW, with the dumb 5 matches in an hour booking) I happen to like the five matches in an hour booking.

i doubt they're bringing back that whole format, i think they're just turning on the hype machine for wrestlemania. everyone on the WM card is being built up as much as possible, and then they'll start having more unexpected matches afterwards. wwe doesn't really care what the ratings are a few weeks from wrestlemania, they're putting all their eggs in one basket and having the shows made into one big advert for the ppv, which is a good way to get people excited.

I knew of that, but I would've thought he was back when he returned to get mauled by Big Daddy V before getting chokeslammed by the Undertaker. Although, it's cool that Balls is a dedicated enough dad to take off the time he did to spend with the mother and new baby.

In case some of you forgot there ain't no free in Free TV when you're on the WWE's side of the boob tube. You still gotta sell the weekly show too. USA and Spike Tv don't run these programs for charity they expect to get a slice of the pie too and if the program ain't getting viewers it ain't making money and if it ain't makin' money YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!!!!!!! Furthermore if fans don't like the shit they're gettin' free, they sure as hell ain't gonna pay for it. Booking solely for the pay per view is what killed boxing.
Squash matches were boring as hell back in the day and don't get anyone over they remind the audience it's o.k. to get up and got the bathroom because nothing worth giving a damn about is gonna happen. What WWE needs to do is use more of their roster instead of just having the same guys fight each other every week. Plus when somebody gets hurt they don't have to start from square one as they'll have guys ready to step up and take the slot.
I don't think we need to go back to 1994 again.

I like it when the young guys crush jobbers, as they get to debut a finisher and establish a moveset.
That's what they did with Punk and people pop for his big spots. it conditions the fans to respond to certain moves.
Don't get why it took them so long to establish Carlito's moveset and style.
It works in getting moves over.
