Don't think I was here when this came out, so I missed the discussion. But I was curious as to what you all thought about it.

It was like they said "Sorry for the past 10 sucky seasons. Here's a kickass movie to make up for it"

Well written, pretty funny, and with the wit and emotional impact I haven't found in recent years. Truly an entertaining film.

I remember that a lot of people here loved it, but I was one of the few that, for the most part, disliked it. I thought the plot was terrible and overly zany, the Lisa side-story was boring and seemed to be there to just give her some kind of story, and the laughs were few and far between. I've watched it a couple more times since seeing it on opening weekend because I want to like it, but I can't seem to enjoy it.
This is coming from someone who absolutely loved the show for it's first 9-10 seasons.

it was horrible. its like they forgot what the simpsons were all about. they even recycled some of their own storylines and made them worse. im still dissapointed.

Bart and Marge had some emotional resonance, but lisa was just there.

It was a lot better than the last several seasons, but still nowhere near seasons 3-8 (The Golden Age).
I liked it a lot, but probably only because I was used to the more recent trash.

See, that might be the problem with me. I stopped watching around season 12 because I noticed the decline. And hearing what some of my friends have said about the last 6-7 seasons, I've stayed away completely from the TV show. So when I watch the movie, I can't help but compare it to the quality seasons the show had in the early-mid 90s.

Some people, unfortunately, stayed WAAAAY too loyal to the show and kept watching for far too long.

The first two seasons lacked one crucial element: funny.

Two of my favorite episodes of all-time come from Season 1: Crepes of Wrath, and Life On The Fast Lane. Animation was bad, but overall it was a good season. Especially when you consider it was their first.

After the hideous crap that have been the last few seasons, I really think this movie was best described by one of my friends: "the funeral of the series"
Because it's relatively good (annoying Lisa sidestory notwithstanding) and funny, something that cannot be said for the series nowadays.

I hated it. One episode would have been better than that whole movie. Its like they just made a mediocre hollywood movie to squeeze some more money out of it.

I enjoyed it a lot.
I'll admit a shed a small tear during the scene where Homer was watching the tape Marge made. That was sad.

It was like I expected it to be. A 90 minute long Simpsons episode.
I liked it. I never thought it to be an epic masterpiece, like some did. It was good and yes, better than the last seasons of the show has been.

Love it. Sure, being one of the few to not backlash against the current show so take it for what that means, but still. The main thing that will stick with me is Comic Book Dude's Green Lantern/Sineistro reference, just so awesome the first time that I choked on my Milk Dud and cried.

As a former hardcore fan, who actually had about 90% of the episodes taped up until 2000, I gave up on the show around 02-03 but I really enjoyed the movie.

I liked the movie. But it did kinda feel like a Simpsons episode stretched to about an hour and a half.
