I enjoyed it, and I'd also like to say that having been a fan of the show pretty much all my life, I enjoy the more recent episodes as well. And I enjoy them for what they are rather what I think they 'should be' because I understand the fact that it is never going to be as good as it was in it's prime, because:
1. It's been around for so long. 2. The things they did in the supposed 'golden age' were so grand and bold and spectacular and so well received that nothing they do 10 or 15 years later is going to be anywhere close to it. 3. I'm not expecting it to be something today that it can't be, and even if it could be most wouldn't give it the chance.
To me, if you can't find things to enjoy about a show that you supposedly 'love', you shouldn't be smurfing watching it. If all else fails, buy the smurfin' DVD sets and sit back and enjoy your smurfin' 'glory days' episodes or go look for something else to watch.
But to me, it's bullcrap for people to say that they're fans of something when all they do is heap crap onto it and say 'it should be like it was such and such years ago', especially when the people involved in the show are doing the best with what they've got to work with.
That's my 2 cents anyway.

I thought it was awful and no better than any of the shitty episodes since season 12.

That's my 2 cents anyway. I don't watch Simpsons anymore, and I just watch the smurfin' DVD sets, as you put it. Why, after watching the first ten seasons or so, which are most likely some of the best TV EVER, do I have to sit and watch the absolute crap they put out now? They're too preachy, smug, and rely too heavily on the flavor of the week special guests. They don't even have quality stories anymore; it's just, Homer does something wacky, Bart does something wacky, Lisa has a wacky new belief, Marge does something wacky and boring. Give me a break. Don't accuse me of not being a "true" fan because I choose not to put up with that crap, especially when there's actual good television being produced right now.

Like it's been said, you could've watched two hours of normal episodes and gotten the same result.
And it was pretty garbage for the most part, especially that Spider-Pig routine. Whoever wrote that needs to be flogged, then put into a locked room where he must endure lap dances from Roseanne and Rosie O'Donnell.
The best joke in the whole thing was Schwarzenegger getting conned into putting the dome plan into action. After that, nothing was worthy.

I grew up with The Simpsons and it was just an amazing thing to watch them on the big screen. I really enjoyed the film.

I'll admit a shed a small tear during the scene where Homer was watching the tape Marge made. That was sad. As did I. Anyway, aside from the crappy Spider-pig appearance and the lame Lisa side story, I thought it was an excellent film. Sure, it was like a very long Simpsons episode, but I don't mind... The only minor thing I was disappointed with was that they didn't use that THX clip where Grandpa says "TURN IT UP! TURN IT UP!"...

Emotional, witty, hilarious, well-written, killer performances. All in all, it was everything it should've been

I saw it opening day, had a great crowd, loved it. Re-watched it for the first time in a year last night and still love it.

I recently re-watched it on HBO, and my feeling, much like after I first saw it, was that it was awesome!

Only one big problem I have with it, Marge & Homer don't have a wedding tape. Mind you, The Simpsons has retconned it's own history so many times it's hard to keep track.

Only one big problem I have with it, Marge & Homer don't have a wedding tape. Mind you, The Simpsons has retconned it's own history so many times it's hard to keep track. The Simpsons has never been a stickler for continuity, considering the 3+ Christmas episodes (With the characters never aging), the birthday party episodes, the "Last day of school" episodes, etc... Problem is that a lot of the common themes used in the show (Really, the show was always kindof a stereotypical sitcom with wacky characters) were used within the first few seasons. Holidays, marital strife, sibling rivalries, doubt in beliefs (be it religion or whatever), etc. That's exactly why South Park was right when they yelled "SIMPSONS DID IT!" because they've done everything at least twice at this point in time. To the others, this is also why The Simpsons has been using a lot more guest stars, political statements, etc. and it was the same reason South Park has been doing it. Problem is, South Park does it so damn well (And in such a timely manner) that it's really hard to compete on that level. The newer episodes (Season 13+) are definitely iffy but, compared to a lot of TV, they're still alright. As for the movie, I walked out of the theater with a big smile on my face, I was so happy about it. It was exactly what I wanted, a story about The Simpsons, not the multitude of side-characters. The spectacle of the whole thing, with the giant crowds at several points throughout the movie, made me smile even more when I started noticing these small bit part characters who were in those scenes. Just good all around for me.

A 90 minute film about Gil & Disco Stu moving in with Krusty? The Simpsons on TV hasn't had a good family-centric episode in a long time. The fact that the movie was centred around the family as a whole was refreshing.

Compared to the recent seasons, it was great
Compared to the Golden Age of Simpsons, it was decent at best.
All in all it had its moments, but after almost two decades of Simpsons, and with at least the last 5 years being terrible, it was a fair effort.

The fact that the movie was centred around the family as a whole was refreshing. See, I get that complaint because I also wish that Krusty, Principal Skinner, and many others had screen time but that wouldn't have given anywhere near a cohesive story. If I need my side-character fix, I always got the episode "22 Short Stories About Springfield" to watch. And, to go along with other responses, the movie totally made me tear up a bit during that video Marge made.
