No this isnt a flame thread or anything. Last night I bought the MGS 4 PS3 bundle. Now I wont have it until August 1st at the earliest, but I read this is pretty much the last bundle that will have any kind of PS2 compatibility so I figured I had better get it now.
And thats why I'm not happy....I didn't wanna buy it so soon, I wanted to wait for a little while, but making sure I got one with BC just got to me I guess. At least I'll have one now. Just thought I'd get this off my chest.

Well, at least you got one that plays PS2 games, that's always a good thing. The European MGS4 bundles (or any other PS3's they sell over here) don't have any PS2 compatibility whatsoever.

well, there are some independant game shops that sometimes can put that into a system. At least one down here does

Read my Sig. Seriously, if you want PS2 compat, just keep your PS2. I have an NES sitting around in game stuff. The last time I used it was to play Final Fantasy for no good reason.

They lied to you. As of September, no new PS3 systems will have backwards compatibility to the PS2. This is a cost-cutting measure, and I bet that they're still losing money from the PS3.

I have the 60 gig OG PS3 and I might had played a PS2 game three times. It wouldn't matter to me besides the fact that I know someone else can and I can't.

Since I bought the PS3 I`ve had no inclination to go back. I only stuck Black into the PS2 to see if the graphics still held up alongside Assassin`s Creed and CoD4. They don`t.
BC is a non-issue with me. I didn`t buy a PS3 to play PS2 games. It does seem to be a big issue with others though so I can see why you`d be annoyed.

Also, new Slim-line PS2s start at $99, used ones go for much less, so I'd save the money from the MGS4 PS3 (The 40G costs $399 vs. the $599 for the special edition) and just buy a PS2 with it, which gets you full BC with no glitches AND PS1 compatibility for those times when you just really have to play the original Smackdown (Go for Bradshaw, his Clothesline From Hell was an Insta-KO).

I understand what you mean...but I havent had a PS2 in like 2 years, plus I wanted to get as much out of getting one as possible.

Haha, really? Gamestop didn't tell us that, and I work there. I'm glad I sold my PS3 and PSP, seriously, f*** Sony.

Oh man, I didn't know they lowered the price on that System + MGS4 set... And to the Janitor, no it technically wouldn't be cheaper. The PS3 in the special edition set is the 80GB vs. the 40GB for $399... The 60GB (Original configurations were 20 and 60GB) originally cost $599 at launch. Actually, the soon-to-be released 80GB (Not a MGS4 pack) will cost $499. Pretty much all the hardware configurations are ridiculous. According to Wikipedia, there have been 4 separate versions released in the U.S. (20GB - discontinued, 40GB - soon to be discontinued, 60GB - discontinued, 80GB - discontinued). Technically there are actually 2 separate 80GB ones released, with the newer, slimmer (In internal hardware only) version that lacks backwards compatibility actually taking over all of them and being the ONLY hardware configuration offered. Detailed PS3 Hardware Configuration (via Wikipedia)

I bought my 60Gig PS3 a few days after they announced that they would stop making them, and future systems wouldn't have the piece of hardware in them that allows for the system to be backwards compatible. You made a wise choice. I can't imagine not being able to play my PS1/2 games on my PS3, and I'd be pissed if I had to hook up my PS2 all over again.

You should be able to play most PS1 games on any PS3. Says so in my manual anyway.

Wow, Sony really had it's ducks lined up for this launch; Horribly expensive experimental HD Blu-Ray player that may be useful in three years. Check. So new that it hasn't properly been tested Cell Processor. Check. Weird confusing advertising campaign that doesn't actually give a reason for buying the system but seems to suggest it's made from Venom? Check. Launch Titles that will sell the system for Christmas? No Check. Backwards Compatibility, a feature we pioneered that everyone will be using in this generation. No Check? Okay. Sixaxis Controller we have no intent of ever fully using? Check.
For fairness X-Box 360 QA that the system won't stop working due to heat buildup? No Check? Eh, won't be an issue anyways. HD-DVD Backup plan. Uncheck. Polling Data on White Chasis. Uncheck.
Wii: Large Selection of Third Party Games: Uncheck. Virtual Console Titles People want to play that weren't made by us. Uncheck. Wii Ware Quality Control Mechanism: Uncheck. Stupid Player Insurance Policy from Lloyd's in case people throw Controlers through television. Uncheck.
See, everybody makes mistakes.
