Ok so I dont watch TNA. I havent since like 2005 and the first BFG. But I do watch Chikara and after the Chikara event today they showed Victory Road for free so i figured I would stay and watch and give TNA another chance. The World X stuff was fun and it was cool to see the foreign guys. But I found the rest of the show pretty boring, but then the main event happened.
Is this how TNA operates? The ref goes down and Joe continues wrestling trying to win and hold on to his title. Fine. But then for some reason Sharmell starts screaming and crying yelling for somebody to help. She then slaps Joe.
Where I come from thats a DQ right there. But Joe just attacks the guys sitting around Sharmell and goes back to wrestling. Then a bunch of refs come down for some reason and Joe beats them up too.
As far as I can see it's not Joes fault the ref went down and its not like he has a chair and is cheating to regain his title. Thus I see no reason for a bunch of refs to stop him from wrestling. Then some more people get in Joes way and Joe beats them up. Fine
Then Sting comes down and tries to talk Joe down. Joe not listening to Sting goes back to work on Booker, Sting runs in and knocks Joe out with a baseball bat. Sharmell then runs in and makes the 3 count and gives Booker the title?
So in TNA any fan can just run in and make counts when the ref is down? Am I missing something or does this make no sense at all? Needless to say I shall continue to not watch TNA.

my whole thing was, why was management not at one of the biggest ppv's of the year?
that ending makes no sense to me based on it not having an ending.
joe then destroys refs to get out of defending the belt
that's how i felt
he was like you know screw this, you people don't deserve joe
and that's the character he should have

Refs always come down acting like security, in any promotion, when things get out of hand. And the world champion was beating up Sharmells people at ringside. Thats something that is usually broken up.
Wasnt the ref out when she slapped him? Obviously there cant be a DQ there.
And no, fans cant make three counts, its obviously just part of the story, Joe is still champion, and Booker will claim hes the real champion. The bell never rang or anything.

There have been fan plant attacks and so on for years, most of the time leading to brawls, or challenges or something. |

I also dont get if the match was unresolved why they would play Bookers music and end the show? Wouldn't Cornette come out and make a judgment?

That part, no idea. Id just assume it was their idea of playing up the Sharmell pinfall thing as actually counting and get people saying "wait, hes not actually the champion, right?"

Tonight was TNA being TNA. This was a great show until the last 10 minutes.
I agree with the OP. Joe wasn't doing anything aggressive or violent. He was just wrestling his match. Yet Sharmell starts with the pleading and Tenay and West are trying to figure out why Joe has snapped. Overall, it was just a horrid, putrid ending to an otherwise awesome show.
In other words.....it was TNA.

Cliffhanger on the PPV! Watch our show on free television to find out what happened!
They could have boosted the buyrate if they'd done this in reverse order...and they can't raise the Impact rating by doing stuff like that at the PPV. Everyone who bought the PPV already watches Impact

They could have boosted the buyrate if they'd done this in reverse order I doubt running a swerve/screwjob/schmoz on iMPACT! would boost a buyrate. I don't many people ordering a show just to see who won the world title on a free show. The rest I agree with though. |

No, WWE would do it the same way. It's not treating your fans as idiots. It's trying to hook them into Spike TV Thursday night. In an era where TV ratings means nearly everything for a small wrestling promotion, they needed to do this. Yes, ratings are more important than buyrates right now. Why? Because increasing ratings builds a fanbase. Now you have to figure only a small percentage of that can afford PPVs. Given TNA's million constant watchers, how many of them can afford PPVs? Don't tell me that they would buy more if the quality was better -- look at WWE. Even their good PPVs aside from Wrestlemania dont get more than 200,000 buys. And they have MILLIONS of fans. Not just 1 million like TNA. So, smart guy, whats more important? Increasing a fanbase by hooking people into your TV show in the hopes that you can establish a base that the small percentage that can afford to buy PPVs will, or continue to cater to the 30,000 people who buy them and don't make the PPVs significant to profit at all? Hooking iMPACT with that line is crucial. Even if it insults your intelligence. In which case, you should also state that WWE does every week as well. |
