Billy Bob hasn't had a good role since Sling Blade His best role wasn't even in Sling Blade, it was A Simple Plan. Total brilliant performance, released the same year as Primary Colors, and in my opinion even blew it out of the waters. I didn't like Primary Colors but I haven't seen that other one...might check it out. I actually looked at something on Thornton and he's apparently cousins with Terry and Dory Funk.

What an awful choice for the part. There is no way that guy from Brokeback Mountain can play the Joker.

Freddy in the remake should change to reflect the times - they CAN'T go the all-campy route and make him a one-liner machine like in the later entries in the series. Freddy Kruger in this film needs to be as smurfin' evil as you can POSSIBLY make him - and they need an actor like Cillian (my choice) to pull it off. He's unknown and an awesome actor (and even LOOKS the part as an added bonus), and thus would be absolute dynamite. What's more, it's a casting decision that would even make sense - since he did such an awesome job playing the villain in another Wes Craven movie, "Red Eye," why not let him go for the big one?
I dug a little deeper on the imdb.com entry for the remake - in addition to "Doom," Wesley Strick has actually scripted some decent movies, like the "Cape Fear" remake and "Return to Paradise," although he certainly has his fair share of crap, most notably "The Saint" and "The Glass House."
If done right, this movie could be absolutely phenomenal, emotional, and powerful, and this is actually a remake that I truly believe in (if anyone remembers my "I want to see a 'Nightmare' remake thread"), but the Billy Bob casting news is, to me, the first crack in the armor. I just don't see it.
Which is why New Line needs to put me in charge of the franchise. ;D

Those are exceptions. For every Scarface, there are about 20 Dawn Of The Deads. Um, but the Dawn of The Dead remake was good. Not compared to the 1978 original it wasn't. I agree that wasn't the best example to use though, so here are some better ones... The Fog remake The Omen remake The Wicker Man remake (NOT THE BEEEEEES!) The Day of the Dead remake etc.

The Departed, Maginificent Seven and Wizard of Oz as well. Also, what you just said is how I feel man. There is no need to get mad at remakes because the original isn't being replaced. It's still there for all to see and enjoy. Infact, sometimes remakes bring the originals back to prominance through DVD releases, TV play and all. Yes, and my rebuttal to THAT factoid always is: They're rarely NECESSARY (whatever happened to making a smurfing SEQUEL?) and they will ALWAYS be a pain in my ass, simply because now, thanks to Platinum smurfing DUNES, I have to give the monkey behind the video counter SPECIAL instructions BY YEAR in order to get the movie I want. I can no longer just say "Give me the TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, please.". NOW I have to tell him "Give me the 1974 TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE. No, not that one, that's the crapty remake. THE OTHER ONE. The GOOD one. No, that's the crapty PREQUEL. THE ORIGINAL, jackass! Tobe smurfING Hooper's movie...not Michael smurfING Bay's turdwich.....goddamnit, to your LEFT! Your OTHER LEFT, assmunch! There, that one!". See? Because of Platinum Dunes I am banned from Blockbuster. smurfing assholes. When I was doing the Top 30 Horror Movies here, the original TCM was the hardest movie to find images for because even when I typed in "TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 1974" in google search, all I got was Jessica Biel. Normally I wouldn't complain, but it just shows how much these crappy PD remakes are taking over.

I agree with TR that Freddy needs to return to his roots.
I liked Freddy up through Dream Warriors because he came off as a sadist (although the jokes started creeping in more in Dream Warriors) as opposed to a fan favorite from Dream Master through Freddy's Dead.
New Nightmare was a step in the right direction, and FvJ, to me, had a better Freddy than the aforementioned sequels offered (granted FvJ was meant to be cheesy fun) because he felt more like Dream Warriors at that point.
