Saw it tonight with a friend. I thought it good, but a big let down because it has such an awesome cast. My friend liked it even less and asked me if I wanted to sneak into another movie since we both weren't happy with Tropic Thunder. We saw Pineapple Express, which was much better. Did you stay until the last half? Cause that's were the absolute funniest stuff was IMO. Also, Pineapple Express is worth the hype then? Good deal.

All I am saying is that...if this movie is "offensive" then why don't we start a whole new fuss over White Chicks and it's racist portrayal of whites, or The Ringer and it's "offensive portrayal of the handicapped" ?? People nowadays are just too high strung and seem to WANT to find anything out there offensive just so they can get some attention or file a lawsuit and get money they don't deserve.... Hell while we are at it why not bring back the hassling of Truman Show because it "didn't have a black person in the movie and that was racist!" claim that came up not too long ago? Some folks need to get a life.....

Apparently the fuss over The Ringer wasn't as strong as it intended to be because half the cast are/were real life competitors for the special olympics.

I don't see why anyone should be offended by it......White Chicks was the same exact thing but was made by black guys and that movie seemed to not get as much fla--oh wait, they are black-of course it's all right! the only time it is racist to portray a person of another race is if your a white guy-because as we all know there is no such thing as a racist black i.e. minority! Only white people are racist! every other race is perfect 100% !!!!!!!!! At least that is what they are saying when they whine like little morons over something like this....... i would just like to point out that most of the people throwing out the race card on behalf of the black community are in fact rich, caucasian, middle aged males. as someone who's spent the better part of my life fighting real racism, my experience is that it's always the middle class white guys who think they're sticking up for a minority who only gets their names dragged through the mud. alot of racial tension arises when things like this happen, because white people often see a "one rule for them" type structure, and presume, quite logically, that this is what the black population wants. this leads to white people misunderstanding the anti-racist movement within the black community, and black people returning the favour by snubbing caucasian culture. this only leads to even more racial tensions. but maybe, as large an acusation as this is, that's what certain people want. sorry if i went on a rant there, but the way the anti-racist movement, and the opinions of minories have both been hijacked by peoplewho have no idea what they're on about really gets me pissed off. oh, and this film looks crap, although i might give it a look since i like stiller and black.

The problem with "racism in movies" is that it has been taken to the extremely ridiculous....
Truman Show still gets flack for "not having blacks in the movie" which is insane because the neighbors he does that whole good morning, evening etc." exchange with every morning...they are black and in fact several blacks can easily be seen in Truman's town as well as the "real world"
However one of my favorite "racist movie!" claims is when Back To The Future first came out..there was a small group of black nationalists who started screaming about how the whole dance scene with Marty playing Johnny B. Goode was racist...why was it considered so? Because in their opinion...when Marty was playing rock and roll he was actually teaching black people how to play it and the scene was secretly saying that blacks had learned rock music from whites.
What makes this a favorite of mine?
While it is pretty well accepted that blacks invented rock and roll---the scene that was supposedly such a racist scene.......caught the attention of Chuck Berry(the subject of the joke in this scene) and he loved it! Chuck Berry(who is black) loved the scene and took it in the spirit that it was meant to be taken in. If Chuck Berry didn't find it racist or offensive ...then why should these black nationalists who more or less are claiming to be defending him?
I mean really....Chuck Berry had no problem with it...the "black nationalists" should have as well....fortunatley they were ignored by nearly everyone and got little to no news coverage....

I saw it and think the boycott completely misses the point and, if anything, further enforces what the satire was intended to skewer. Everyone's fine and dandy (and ready to hand out awards) when actors portray an individual with an impaired mental capacity that doesn't exist in the real world, but shows that they can achieve in life even with this limited impairement that typically entails them talking oddly and getting things slightly slower than others. Go after an actual ailment or condition and its curtains (and boycotts). I get not wanting the word "retard" being thrown around in such context with people, but just as they have the right to boycott, Stiller and company have the right to say it.
As for the movie itself, very uneven and not as funny as Zoolander or some of the other "zany" comedies. It had extremely funny high points, and then a long line of missed jokes. I went from laughing my ass off to checking my watch to see if it was almost over.

I watched it this past Friday. It was really hit and miss for me. I did enjoy Robert Downey Jr's character though.

I think some of the funniest "this movie is racist against blacks!" moments are when the movies that are getting attacked as being racist towards blacks are movies that were written by blacks. This goes for any race but the blacks seem to be the ones who are the so-called "victims" of racist movies more than anyone else.
I love it when a movie gets attacked by a certain group as being racist towards a paticular race and then there are replies from people of that very race who aren't offended and who in fact love the movie that is supposedly "racist" to them........
A good example.....let's say there is a movie where the hero is a white guy and all the bad guys are black... and a group calling themselves AAOARF(African-American Organization Against Racist Films) starts to scream and whine about how racist it is against black people..........only to have several thousands of other black people come to the defense of the movie saying that they not only LOVED the movie but did NOT find it offensive or racist in the least...........
When this kind of thing happens(and it happens more often than you would think) I love to see these groups who claim the that movie is insulting to everyone of that race, get shot down by other people of that very race.
It just proves that obviously not every single person of that race finds the film racially offensive and that many even like it.....
