I really can't stand the Olympic coverage. As was said, 99% of it is geared toward women with gymnastics and swimmimg dominating the coverage. Yes I enjoy watching gymnastics but jeeze, there are a million different sports going on.

Yes I enjoy watching gymnastics but jeeze, there are a million different sports going on. Part of it is because NBC could only convince the other countries that play it to have cretin games in our prime time. Which is early morning for them. Like this year the Swimming and Gymnastics are going to be live in prime time and 1 other event. They still will show pre tapped stuff. But thats the problem when the games are over half a day ahead of us.

I thought Baseball was pulled from the Olympics last go around?
Anyway, I don't usually watch the Summer Games outside of diving. Love the Winter though.

Baseball and softball are pulled from the 2012 London Olympics. It might be put back in for the 2016 Olympics. Also, USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! Russia Just took a hit BEIJING -- Eight days before the start of the 2008 Summer Games, an apparently major doping scandal involving the Russian track and field team erupted Thursday, track and field's governing body provisionally suspending seven Russian athletes after a long-running, highly sophisticated and specifically targeted investigation.Full Story www.nbcolympics.com/blogs/blog=alanabrahamsonsblog/postid=162136.htmlThat is going to hurt them in Track big time.

Another one out for Doping. This time American Swimmer Jessica Hardy. Jessica Hardy withdrew Friday from the U.S. swim team that will compete at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Hardy, who tested positive at the U.S. Trials July 4 for the banned stimulant clenbuterol, "agreed to withdraw in the best interests of the team," the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said in a statement.
USADA said Hardy, 21, who would have been a medal contender in Beijing in two individual events as well as two relays, opted not to challenge the results of that positive test in a full-on arbitration hearing.
Instead, an arbitration panel granted the swimmer and her lawyer, Howard Jacobs of Westlake Village, Calif., additional time -- it's not clear how much -- to "investigate possible causes of her positive drug test," raising the possibility of a tainted dietary supplement among other leads to investigate.
USADA said Hardy and Jacobs agreed to that course after she'd had a "full opportunity to review the laboratory test results and to have those results analyzed by independent experts." USADA added that she "did not contest the laboratory findings."
Hardy was issued a two-year ban, a standard first-time offense. The USADA statement said she would be expressly permitted to come back to the same arbitration panel at some future moment to "present evidence which could reduce her period of ineligibility." www.nbcolympics.com/blogs/blog=alanabrahamsonsblog/postid=163528.html#hardy+withdraws+from+u+s+team

Meh...
the usual doping scandals, before and (I bet 50$) during and after the games, the usual SuperHuman performances by hometown heroes and by the "usual suspects".
Tons of disciplines the world doesn't care about if not for two weeks every 4 years, tons of sports that aren't even actual sports.
Plus all the problems about China...
I couldn't care less about Summer Olympics.
