A broken neck isn't the same as a broken bone, where there's a physical break. The term "broken neck" is most commonly used when there are ruptured discs near the base of the skull. You can still get around, but you're gonna be in quite a bit of pain and it wouldn't take much for a bone spur to end up severing your spinal cord at that point.

Man, I'm still hoping this is an unproven rumor. But if it's not, I feel even worse for Jeff Hardy than I did before. We all knew his style was going to take it's toll, but I never realized how things would get so bad for him so quick. His career's seems absolutely snake-bitten right now.
If it is his neck, it could be his career. Helms still hasn't come back from his injury, despite being cleared. And I don't see Hardy reworking his style to a submission or power style. It's a real shame.

So, is he the second person to wrestle with a broken freakin' neck, if he wrestles at SummerSlam?

I just watched the match again, and it looked like he landed awkwardly - kind of on the side of his head - when doing the hurricanrana to the outside of the ring. The swantons that came afterwards looked nice and clean, and he didn't seem to be in difficulty.
I hope that this is just newz, but if it's not, then I sincerely wish him a full and speedy recovery.

I couldn't tell from watching the match where he might have hurt his neck, but I did notice that he was having trouble with his arm.
Until an official story comes out, its all just speculation right now. As a fan, I'm just hoping for the best.

God, I hope this isn't true. WWE would suffer with him out for a whole year. If it is, hopefully he'll take the Angle operation instead of the traditional operation so he'll only be out a few months.

Anyone else notice how, during his run-in during the Shelton-Jeff match from Tuesday night, MVP was holding his left arm close to his body, like he was selling (legit or not) an injury?

Well, considering how well its apparently worked out for Angle, I'd rather he'd sit out the full year. There's a report on Gerweck.net right now that his webmaster reported that it is an injury to his elbow and that he will be at Summer Slam. Wait and see, I guess...

Angle also pushed himself too hard when he came back, no matter what type of surgery he had. Hopefully Jeff will be a little more careful, and if that means scaling back his style for at least the short term, so be it.

I'm thinking maybe part of it, if this is true, may have come from the spot where Benjamin picked him up and flung him against one of the ring posts. The ref looked like he was going to signal something, maybe the X signal, but then started counting.

-- Jeff Hardy reportedly suffered a broken neck at Tuesday night's SmackDown/ECW taping. He was scheduled to do an autograph signing at a Best Buy in Rockford, Illinois yesterday, but Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase replaced him. Hardy was also advertised for last night's house show in Rockford, but did not appear. WWE.com is still advertising the Jeff Hardy vs. MVP match for tonights SummerSlam pay-per-view. UPDATE ... - From Cait: Just thought I'd pass along the information that over on the hardyshow.com message board the topic of Jeff Hardy's "broken neck" came up. Tamran who is a reliable source of Hardy information said the following "not true....jeff is injured, he's having some elbow issues that's why he was pulled off things this weekend. so he can be at the PPV on sunday." This would make more sense, not sure why the store was telling people he had a broken neck. Source: www.f4wonline.com
