I absolutely think there's a huge potential market for a Best of WCW type of compilation. Don't forget that for a period of about 2 years, WCW was the hottest pro wrestling company in America -- even moreso than the WWF was. A Best of WCW DVD would cater to far more than just smarks.

As a long time NWA fan I would have loved a dvd set for Starcade only if they werere going to do it like the Wrestlemania set (all matches from start (83) to finish (2001?). Otherwise, most matches they would use would be ones we have already seen 100 times like(Race/Flair,Piper/Valentine) and/or ones that sucked(Garvin/Flair,Hogan/Butcher)

No, think about it. Sting headlined like 3 Starcades, but he's with TNA now. Flair is out of a WWE contract, so his involvement with the project is probably unknown, but you couldn't do it without him. For all we know, he could be on TNA when the DVD is released. So of the Big WCW names, that leaves Hogan, who again, would probably do it, but let's face it, Hogan's matches at SC kinda sucked. So that leaves Ed Leslie, Vader, Black Scorpion and the usual gang of idiots/ Legends. So basically, there is no one to put on this thing. Wouldn't it just be matches, not a documentary? TNA involvement wouldn't mean a hoot then. The HBK 3 disc set features matches with Jarrett and Angle and many, many mentions of Nash; the Ladder Match disc is filled with Dudleys, plenty of discs have had Savage and Sting matches, etc. It was porbably a case of either lack of interest or just dropping/changing the idea (Anyone remember how the awful McMahon DVD was originally scheduled to be an Austin/McMahon DVD?) Well, you could do it with just a compilation, but to do it right, you have to produce a short segment, if nothing else on the historical importance of the event. Especially if it's footage from the 1980s.
