from PWMania:
-- Reader Brent R. Taylor sent word that WWE has apparently cancelled the previously planned WCW Starrcade DVD set, which was set for release sometime this year. A few months ago, he pre-ordered the "Best of Starrcade" DVD from FYE (originally scheduled for release on July 8), but received an email notification from FYE telling him that his order had been cancelled. On the product page on Amazon.com, they're saying that the project "has been discontinued by the manufacturer."

Well that sucks I hope it's just a temporary delay for what ever reason and WWE will continue sometime in the not to distant future. They really do need to start releasing the old WCW PPVs on box sets and ECW box set PPVs after that. Then maybe they could look at the other companies they bought as well and see what they could come up from all the classic organizations of old.

Those bastards!!!
I wonder how Dusty Rhodes is gonna feel about this? He created that show before ppv was around....one final time for his show to shine and it gets cancelled.

Great. The three DVD titles that WWE comes up with that actually spark some serious interest - Starrcade, Savage and Sting - and the whole lot gets cancelled. Nice work, Vince.

Maybe, just maybe...it was cancelled because there weren't as many pre-orders as the WWE hoped for, so they're doing the right thing for business and not throwing good money after bad?

First of all, was it scheduled-scheduled, or was it just one of the "possible" releases?
We've heard of many "soon to be produced" DVDs that turned out being little more than rumoured or hoped for...
Anyway I don't think it's a bad move. How many current, PAYING, customers would have bought a dvd-set featuring old PPV from a company that has been out of business for almost a decade?
Old school fans would sure have loved it, but we all know what the New fans/Old fans ratio is when it comes to $$$

Flair gone, Sting with TNA, no Vader, Hogan on bad terms, Nash with TNA, Jarrett with TNA, Benoit.
Not many "big" matches they could feature.

Wasn't there a poll up on wwe.com a couple of weeks ago asking people to choose what they would like to be on this thing?

I wish they would release individual WCW PPV's on DVD.
Or at least put out box sets like they have for Mania, Rumble, and SummerSlam, for stuff like Starrcade, Fall Brawl, Super Brawl, Halloween Havoc, Slamboree, etc.

ECW fanboys would buy "One Night in Chyna" if it comes with an ECW logo on it... So anything branded ECW will sell enough to be profitable. WCCW was probably part of the buyout or just a tribute to a defunct company.

They should release them like the Tagged Classics.
All they are is VHS rips so they're cheap to make.

Can't they just admit that WCW had them beat for a while and move on? I mean, once you buy a rival, that's the ultimate f*** you. What harm could come from releasing a WCW DVD?

WWE still hate WCW even though they own them! Truly amazing. Those bad feelings still linger for Vince and company, I suppose. Can't they just admit that WCW had them beat for a while and move on? I mean, once you buy a rival, that's the ultimate smurf you. What harm could come from releasing a WCW DVD? They cannot. Just watch their revisionist DVD documentaries where Vince and company act like they were raped by WCW, despite the fact Vince had used many of the same tactics to crush other promotions and territories. Sadly, WCW is still very much a dirty word to them because they were the only ones to successfully compete and beat the WWF for a time.
