Which do you prefer when shopping for or watching your dvd's?
Myself I prefer widescreen, it makes me feel like I am watching it at the movies, and it gives a great feel to it.

It depends. If it is a movie with a lot of action scenes or dancing and what not, I prefer widescreen. That way, you can see everything. If it is a movie with a lot of dialogue and people aren't moving around that much, then I'll take the fullscreen because it doesn't really matter what's going on in the margins since most of the focus will be on the actors faces.
So, I'm voting for Snitsky.

Widescreen. If you have a large enough TV and you care to see what the director actually wanted you to see, it's the only way to go.

Considering widescreen is how things are meant to be seen and they have to remove parts of the picture to make it full screen, then widescreen wins every single time.

Widescreen all the way. Fullscreen is like looking at only part of a painting. Sometimes Directors set up shots a certain way and the fullscreen edit ruins it.
Imagine The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly in fullscreen....shudder...

It depends on how it was originally filmed. I just want the picture to look exactly how the filmmakers first made it. I don't care if its an epic war story or a goofy romantic comedy.
And since most all films are widescreen, I vote that.

Widescreen with movies/shows, obviously depends on how they were originally filmed though.
When it comes to video games, I often use 4:3 with PS2 games (and older systems) since those usually don't have proper widescreen support and I don't want the image to be stretched horizontally on my HDTV.

Depends on what TV you're viewing it on. Widescreen gives you more space of picture, but unless its anamorphic (which most widescreen pictures aren't), you're gonna get huge black bars. Fullscreen gives you the "whole image"... on a non-widescreen image. Widescreen images are stretched and look U-G-L-Y.
So Widescreen wins.

All you need is to change the TV setting to "wide", and that problem is FIXED. Trust me on this one, GTA 3 looks awesome in anamorphic.

I prefer widescreen. I've always bought widescreen DVDs long before I got my widescreen compu-monitor. (I still need to invest in a new TV someday, seeing as how I've got a 19" Zenith from the late 70's I bought 12 years ago for $40.

I have an HD TV, so I go with Widescreen more often than not. Although, if the film was originally 4:3, I don't want it stretched to fit the screen.

I don't know about GTA 3 (doesn't it have a separate display setting for widescreen in the options menu, or was that only in the later ones?), but some PS2 games like Persona 3 don't have proper support for widescreen and thus if I set my TV on 16:9 as I usually would the image gets stretched to fit the entire screen. I don't exactly want that (as it makes everything look... well, overly stretched), so I use the original 4:3 display mode for those games. Of course, then you get black bars to the left and right, but I can live with those.

Widescreen is the only way to go. I've had arguments with family members about this actually.

It drives my wife insane when a movie has those little black bars across the top and bottom of the screen.
That's why I always buy widescreen.
Because making her nuts makes life worthwhile.

That's exactly the argument me and family members have had. Them: there's those black bars.. I hate those Me: when you're watching in theaters, the screen has those 'bars' on the top and bottom.. does it bug you then?
