Personally, I think they should do away with Full Screen. For most films (especially those originally in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio), it absolutely destroys them. I have noticed that FS dvds seem to be becoming scarce, and I couldn't be happier about it.
Maybe I'm a snob, but it's not about more picture or less picture, it's about the RIGHT picture.

Widescreen is the only way to go. I've had arguments with family members about this actually. So have I, and none of them seem to understand my point.

Widescreen but I prefer 2.35:1 over 1:85. For some reason, widescreen DVDs in 1:85 format still show up as full screen on my TV.

I'm in the minority. I hate widescreen. I'll buy it if it's the only option but most of my dvd's are fullscreen.

Definitely widescreen for me. I hate the fact that anything at Walmart that isn't a new release is in f***ing fullscreen, with very few exceptions.

It's a Sansui, which is like a Samsung basically. 32 inches. Is it a widescreen TV? The screen size on a widescreen TV is 1.85:1, so movies in that aspect ration would fill the entire screen. If it's not a widescreen TV, then Your DVD player might be set to 16:9 mode, in which case you'll need to put it to 4:3.

I bought Hellboy II and it says it's anamorphic widescreen, in 1.85:1 format. Only thing is, I don't see the black bars at the top or bottom, so I keep thinking it's not really widescreen then, its full screen. Unless, its widescreen and I completely missed your point.

Fullscreen is junk. I've been buying Widescreen DVDs for years due to all the reasons already listed in this thread. Now that I actually have a Widescreen HD though, I can fully appreciate the work.
EDIT: I've gone as far as having people return Christmas presents that were in Fullscreen. I hate it.

Widescreen all the way. I wouldn't take a fullscreen DVD even if it was free. It is a horrible way to watch any movie that wasn't shot in 4:3.

Widscreen, definately. I wish I had the pics on my computer still, but for my senior project, I did filmmaking, and I talked about the differences between wide and fullscreen. When converting a widescreen shot to fullscreen, you lose, on average, up to 33% of the movie. While in some movies, thats not much, in others that can be a lot.
But really, it depends on the TV you have. But for anyone buying a new TV, I think you pretty much have to buy widescreen now, right?

It should fill up your screen. You're seeing it fine, man. Now if it's stretched out to fit your screen, you'll need to change your TV settings.

Widescreen. Full screen falls subject to pan and scan.
