Hard to believe me and some Puro mid-carder made all of this possible.

Oh, I'm serious. I know there'll rarely be anything posted on it, but I figure it's close enough in spirit that it should be included.

My city actually has an all female roller derby league. I went to one game and it was pretty cool. I'll have to go to one again. www.dutchlandrollers.comThey feature such great names as: Rachel Slur Spawna Skatin Marie Antoithreat Cole Slaughter Rum N. Choke Treasure Chest (who has giant you-know-whats) Haulin' Ash Irene Business Josie Cuervo I don't think those are their real names!

I used to love the version that was on ESPN in the 80's. Only thing I remember is some chick named Skinny Minnie that was on the face team, and I remember the bad guy coach of some other team always trying to interfere.

Whitman was a great prformer no doubt. But there were so many other legendary t-birds. the fastest woman on skates in my opinion Skinny Minnie Miller, and dont forget the mens squad with freddie futura and the only man in roller derby history to be an active skater and in the hall of fame at the same time," the living legend" Ralphie Valladeres.
I could be worng but I remember a major rivalof the LA T-Birds beng the Detroit Devils. The most annoying "heel" owner was Miss Georgia Hass, although I acn not remember which team she owned.

Whose next? Mark D'Mato's dead? I didn't even know he was sick. I didn't even know there were male roller derby players.

Roller Jam on TNN was actually pretty cool if you didn't take it too seriously.

Ok, dumb question: Is Roller Derby also staged? It just always seemed that way to me.

Roller Jam on TNN was actually pretty cool if you didn't take it too seriously. I liked Roller Jam a lot. I thought it had a very good chance at reviving Roller Derby for a new generation; the young athletes oozed sex appeal, those from the 'older days' had a good chance of bringing in name recognition appeal to the older crowd. I really do think they degenerated way, way too fast into the 'pseudo-' in 'pseudosport'. I was really hoping for a season where they would actually pay attention to records, personal stats and details while building drama and conflict between characters.

I've never been, but my friend knows some of the gals involved and she's always inviting me. Plus, they make guest appearances at Detroit Comics, which my cousin owns. So I feel left out. I used to love Roller Games as a kid. I told people that Randi Whitman was my aunt cause that was my last name also.

Ok, dumb question: Is Roller Derby also staged? It just always seemed that way to me. I don't believe as an almost all female sport now that it is staged anymore. Back in the 70s I think the big leagues on TV were mostly staged just like wrestling. Roller Jam which was on not that long ago was defently staged.

LOL I just thought of something. Remember on the first season of RollerJam when Mark D' Amato was taken out of the game for a penalty and he picked up the penalty bench and threw it? LOL I believe it was one of the first episodes. It was hilarious and is what got me to watch it for a long time after that.
