Dave Meltzer has said that John Cena is likely to make a cameo appearance in The Marine 2, reprising his role from the original movie. The lead character this time around will be a new marine, played by Ted Dibiase Jr. pulsewrestling.com/2008/11/26/lashley-jericho-cena-news/ Surely the most anticipated movie sequel of all time? Also, can Ted Dibiase even act?

We barely know about Dibiases wrestling skills on the main stage, how can we expect to take him seriously as an actor? I know WWE likes to use their own stars but come on, give us some credit and not expect us to rush out and buy it because it includes someone who debut'd something less than six months ago.
Although, maybe it's a good thing and they're actually making it for the wrestling fans who want to see Wrestlers act. It could be argued that using Cena & Kane, two of the main stars in WWE, could of been used to garner outside interest? And now with them using someone who isn't well known nor even readily popular outside of wrestling, they are at least giving someone a try?
But surely they could of chose someone other than Dibiase? Has there been any reasoning to them choosing him?

Why have they given Ted DiBiase a film? He is barely even a mid-level performer. He has wrestled about 5 times - not even particularly well.

Has there been any reasoning to them choosing him? By wrestling standards, Cena, Austin and Kane were all pretty good actors. But in an actual movie? Kane and Cena were hopelessly wooden, Austin fared better, but he was still just your standard crappy action movie actor. Dibiase doesn't even seem like he's a good actor on raw, how's he's going to carry a film?

Well he very might be a good actor but he has trouble live and in front of a crowd. I won't hold out for that but it is a Marine sequel so I wasn't holding out for anything. It is funny though. There's a lot of 20 something to thirty year olds I know, who haven't followed wrestling since the early 90s, would recognize the name and I bet they'd look at the cover and be shocked at how young the million dollar man looks and that he shaved and got a haircut.

Its true. A bit part actor posted a blog about auditioning for the the marine sequel. He noted Cena wasn't the lead, but 'some guy named Ted' was. I think he was just bummed that his career was so bad, he had to star in a WWE movie.

I was actually convinced this was real, but as people have said maybe it's not so I googled it. It says so on IMDB that Dibiase is gonna be in it. I'm not saying that he isnt, or wouldn't be, a good actor. I just said that he hasn't even established himself as a wrestler before being pushed into the realm as a movie star. It's not even his fault. I don't think he's that bad in the ring, I just think he's yet to become a main star in the eyes of the fans, and they expect us to buy it and want to watch it? He must be a fine actor because I can't see what he has done to deserve the main role of what could be their most successful movie. Or, once again maybe, he was the only one expendable enough to lose off Raw for a few months? Cody and Manu are coping fine, the kick to his head has actually helped Orton as an irrational psycho and, when he returns to avenge it, they have something stellar to base their promotion of the movie on.

Since its straight to dvd.,they're not going to waste one of their top stars on it, so they might as well give it to a lower card guy. It'll get him a nice push when it comes out. If it fails, well they're not spending that much on it any way (straight to dvd movies cost only $2-3 million to make)

Im sure they still want it to be a success though, and $2-3 million on a wrestler who probably hasn't earned you an awful lot of that is a great, great chance.
With this type of film, a sequel to a film that wasn't all that great, going straight to DVD is the only option and they'd need to sell a few hundred thousand copies to come close to it being successful and placing someone like Dibiase as the main star is a huge gamble. The main attraction of course is the WWE name on it, so a LOT of people will buy it just for that but there's only so much some people can take.
I know its on IMDB, but it's only on the pro version and I don't have that, is this actually confirmed?

WWE Films should just fold if they are just going to make straight to DVD movies. They aren't Disney that can re re re-release movies and draw or make new ones that are straight-to-dvd like Aladdin 9: Jafar's Dildo, they aren't branded as a movie making company. They just lose money doing this type of thing and no one takes them seriously. I mean Slapshot 3 and Lion King 5, 13, and 47 will draw more than Kennedy's movie.

The straight to dvd business is doing very well right now. It just used to be crappy films that weren't good enough for a theatrical release that went to dvd, but now with the high school musical phenomenon and all the other dinsey sequels that go straight to dvd doing do well, everyone's getting in on it.
The condemned would have done better if they'd put it straight to dvd.

I suppose a lot of movies that failed in theatres would of been good on DVD, such as a lot of movies and tv shows have gone on to have cult status and sell out their cinema stubbs something like 5-1 but, the real point here is what did Dibiase do to derserve it? I'm not taking anything away from him personally, but from a fans perspective why choose Ted? Unless he has genuine acting ability.
