Ok, someone's going to have to explain to me as to why this is such a problem, because I think wrestling as a whole is something that naturally attracts kids.
Don't believe me? Remember all of the action figures and children's merchandise during the Attitude Era (much to the chagrin of some concerned parents, though)? If the fact that 12-year-olds are enjoying this version of WWE is what's so embarrasing (there's a difference between being bored and being embarrased), shouldn't you have been embarrased ten years ago?
Heck, when I was in middle school I knew a ton of kids who loved the original ECW- which, if you watch those old shows, is kind of like a live action cartoon.
To me, any wrestling fan over the age of 21 has a part of them that hasn't fully grown up yet, and I think that's healthy. When a fan acts as if they're above all of the "childish nonsense" one would see in wrestling, it's like a kid on the playground refusing to play with the other kids, on the grounds that they would look immature. You and I are in the same boat as those kids buying Cena shirts and Rey masks, you know.

OK, first of all, your avatar is adorable.
Second of all, only a certain demographic loves John Cena because he's some sort of hero. Virtually every demographic loved Steve Austin because he was some sort of antihero. Whereas Cena is all smiles and "retro" T-shirts, Austin hardly ever smiled and all his shirts needed was black with white lettering.

Just because they made a dumb Nickelodeon magazine ripoff doesn't mean they're "kid-friendly" now.
I mean, come on...they just released a woman whose finisher was shoving her butt in people's faces.

I have no problem with wrestling being marketed to children.
I do, however, find it ridiculous that a show that airs at 9 to 11 pm on cable television censors itself to achieve a PG rating.

Agreed, and yeah, that is a bit odd. I would figure they would focus on making Smackdown less racy. I dunno if it's so much them being PG as they knew fans are virtually un-shockable. You need to save the crazy stuff to make it matter.

Yeah, but you forget the Eastern time zone, besides, a kid-friendly WWE decreases the likelihood of wrestlecrap (or at least the wrestlecrap thats offensive. I mean, was anyone really OFFENDED by the goon?)

Vince only went attitude because he had to.
He's always catered to the younger audience. Hell, that's how most of us got into it.

Wrestling always caters to the child audience first these days. Personally, I prefer it. We've seen the end of the pointless eye candy women's matches and abandonment of heavy profanity. Neither of those are a scourge to wrestling or anything, just things that I can live without. And that's why I like their recent change in direction.

I miss the eye candy women's matches though... as horrible as they were, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler, etc in a bra and paties pillow fight match was enjoyable to watch, though admittedly not for the "wrestling." Secondly, the "real world" is profanity laced nowadays. I didn't say a cussword until I was 14, and almost fell off the back of a 4 wheeler into a ditch, and now you hear kids cursing out teachers at the age of 6. Sure not every kid does it, but it's not exactly uncommon. I personally think we should just get rid of all the censorship on TV in general, though. Make parents actually have to be responsible. Sure, Nickelodeon doesn't have curse words on it, or Disney... but Spike? USA? It's programs for adults - Burn Notice has a spy who has been "burned" and no longer truly a spy, yet he never says a cussword? Ever? His main love interest is an ex IRA member who blows people up and shoots them without any thought... and yet never says a cussword, ever. It's ridiculous.

WWE will never reach Attitude Era levels of popularity under this supposed kid friendly policy. WWE is still dirty enough to prevent it from being considered kid friendly to many parents. And it is tamed down enough to shun away the 18-34 demographic.

WWE realizes it's no secret most of the Attitude Era crowd has left. That's normal of almost any genre of entertainment. In order to survive it needs to attract a new generation of fans. If you wanna see cussing, blood, and weapons then my suggestion is go watch IWA:MS or CZW. Sure it may mean having to watch "garbage wrestling" but in the same token if you want big time TV wrestling you'll have to sit through the reigns of Super Cena, Triple H, and Batista. You want cussing, blood, and adult themes then you'll have to sit through guys whackin' each other with light tubes and no-selling each other's chairshots. Dems da breaks.

I don't want to watch bloody weapons matches - I didn't really care for the original ECW (I know.. <gasp>), and most Hell in a Cell matches tend to just get agonizingly brutal and more about the blood than the story. I don't have issues with Cena, HHH, Batista, etc - I actually enjoy watching them. I just find it silly that adults in today's modern age don't use adult language... that children are using at younger and younger ages. It's just asinine that we CAN see people get beat up (UFC, not WWE, I DO know it's fake), and yet if they say a dirty word it's blocked. That's just... ridiculous. Look at the South Park movie, they kind of point it out in the most obvious way. And honestly, if you don't want to hear it, that's fine, and your decision, I am not holding it against you. Hell, you don't want your children hearing it, fine (though they likely hear it daily from other kids in school, sorry to bust your bubble). Be a parent and accept responsibility for those kids, and what they watch. Explain to them it's "acting" and they shouldn't be putting their friends through a table, or using those words. It's not really complicated.

The blood and pain ARE the story in those matches. They're made to be feud-enders and that the HIAC is the last chapter in the story, the climax then the denouement (which is the term for "falling action"). And as for "kid-friendly", I don't care about what is used in order to keep the audience entertained. Just don't try to bring an incest angle and try to make that kid-friendly.

Why can't they just be kid-friendly through good wrestling on the level of Jericho v Punk this week, instead of a fake rapper or an annoying midget?

Honestly I think it is a good thing. The Attitude Era was good but i think if we had thought about it we should have known it wasn't going to last. The storylines during the attitude era got really dumb sometimes especially around 2000.
I think it would be better however if they wouldn't make Cena such a fan ass kisser though. It makes him look weak as if he is begging. They could easily make him edgier without going over the PG rating. Hell the first hour of RAW in 97 was only PG and that was usually when Austin did his promos so he could wrestle the main even later.
